Blog feedback #4

Hi Amanda!
Great post! Well written and structured, it’s very easy for the reader to grasp what you’re talking about. I am the sound designer for my group as well, so reading about other groups’ sound effects is really cool. I particularly like how you layer sounds that people usually wouldn’t consider, like the whale calls and cicadas, to get a very different effect. It’s very creative!
I would, however, have liked to be able to listen to your sound effects. Maybe […]

Hi Krzesimir,
First off, I think your text was really well written and enjoyable to read.
It was interesting to get your view and thoughts on this presentation and similar presentations in whole. What I liked about it was the depth of your text, that you didn’t only focus on just the presentation and the process of making it. I think that the thing that made it great was the parallels to the actual project and your progress in it.
As you mention […]

Hello Kaijun.
It is clear on why you wanted to create the new enemy type. To engage the player in more ways, to put a new enemy with new behavior that the player has never seen before is an excellent way to add more diversity to the game.
You also explained what you had been working on because you give an excellent description of the behavior of the enemy and what it is going to do.
You also explain the method […]

Playtesting – Blog 5

From the beginning of this course, I felt that this part of the development process – playtesting – was a little bit frightening. I thought that the game needed to be almost finished before it was any use in letting someone test it and that it felt scary to show others our product.
Reading the literature about game design and playtesting, and by watching lectures in the subject, I have started to understand that it is never too early to playtest […]

Week 4 – Sophie Ahlberg
Hi!
I am delighted to hear that you solved a problem that have been an immense issue for you. There is no better feeling than overcoming difficulties. It must have been satisfying and refreshing to find a solution to your problem. Great job!
However, since I’m not a programmer and have no experience when it comes to coding, I would have wanted to get a clearer explanation of your process. You described the process very briefly and […]

Very interesting post! I like how you first start by explaining what you have been working on, and why you did so. Getting a little bit of background concerning your game and how the fog needs to be implemented helps to understand the different aesthetics choices you go for.
While it is nice that you show different type of fog with an explanation added to them. I find it sad that there is at no point a picture of […]

Hi Matthias! Since I am also the lead sound of my group I can relate to your post a lot. I too had some experience with playing certain instruments (not 10 years of classic music like you, but still), and had to basically learn how to create sound effects on my own. I like how the process you developed is very similar to mine. I too look for sounds that have the right dynamics and then add appropriate […]

Hey Basil, it’s Guy, let’s analyze your post.
Firstly, I’d just like to say that your post was very easy to read, nothing seemed to drag on pointlessly and all of the points raised were good. That said, a lot of the English was kind-of off, which is understandable after all, but could be quite jarring when reading an otherwise well-written post and then suddenly stopping in my tracks when a mistake catches my eye. But again, it’s understandable.
Another interesting thing […]

Comment for assignment (4th comment)

In your blog you take care of explaining how your game works before going onto level design which I think is great. Makes it easier to figure out the issues you had and how you solved them. One thing that would have helped a lot would be pictures. Even though you did a great job explaining which enemies you had and that the setting was in the forest.
Without a picture it’s hard for me to understand precisely how the level […]

”Hello Kaijun,
Your blog-post was quite interesting as you showcased a lot of different aspects of the latest enemy in your game. Some of these aspects that were interesting to me were for instance, how you spawned the enemy and that you had several different spawn points that were randomized, how you designed the enemy to stop firing after it reached the other side of the player and the reason behind those aspects. In addition to this, I think […]

Somerset High

Myself and three other students decided to join in on the fun during Global Game Jam of 2018! It was my first time attending and turned out to be a great learning experience as well as a really enjoyable weekend. Our theme was transmission, we ended up building a game in Unity in 3D. This is part of the description:

You are stuck in the long abandoned school Somerset High, you need to find your way out but it’s like a […]

Major Game Design

I am studying game design at Uppsala Universitet, Campus Gotland. That is, I am majoring in game design, with a minor in project management. There are three other minors available: Graphics, Programming and Design. It turns out though, that the majority of project work within the education is focused on you applying the skills of your minor and not so much on being a game designer. This can lead to problems during said project work, especially for people studying project […]
