Alien Station – Development Week 3
Introduction
As lead designer, producer, script writer, and possibly even but less likely so, programmer, on the project Alien Station (working title), I will primarily work on creating the game’s narrative and designing the game’s mechanics to work in unison with it, all the while documenting and making sure production is coherent.
Week 3 of the course and project has been quite eclectic as far as my personal work goes: I have worked on three key areas for this week: Manuscript; the […]

Neon Skies – Week 3
Week 3 focused on creating a fast 3D sketch of the drop pod that the players will come down in. However, due to me having to travel away, we decided that it was better to start work on something that would take a longer time that I could work on independently for extended periods, as such we started work on the mining drones.
In the beginning we were going for a very robust style on the drones with 4 […]

Week 3, Learning particle effects
Hello Everyone!
This week has been a slow week in terms of production.
As this is my first time working in Unreal Engine 4 i had to learn how the engine functions. Not only the engine, but also particle effects to use in our game.
When trying to learn how to use particle effects i decided to watch the videos on youtube that the Epic team, creators of Unreal engine 4, had shared on their youtube page.

The Environment
This week I continued with the level and the environment. I started the first two days of the week by carefully placing and filling the map with the content that I already had. During this stage I thought a lot about how I should plan the map and constantly tested what worked and what did not work by play testing and running around the map after almost everything I did. The problem was that due to most of the mechanics not […]

Week 3 – Big Game Project – A Short Week
Yet another week have gone by, and so I welcome you all back to read my rambles. This week have been a short one for me, since I missed both Monday, Thursday and Friday. This, because I went home for a wedding last week and then the Easter holiday occurred. Even though I were not there, I still worked on my own and when I got back we got a lot of work done.
Last time, I completed the Base mesh […]

First production week, first post
Hi ya’ll!
First blog post of the Big Game Project course, and the first production week!
During this course I will try to make 3 posts focused on artifacts from more of a game design perspective,
and 3 posts focused more on how the artifacts has been programmed or created.
It has been a while since this blog was used, however new year and new game requires for some posts here.
So what has been done since the “Big Game Project” course started? Well, the […]

Design Thoughts: When are you done?
Just gonna make a small post about some thoughts I had today, when is a game done? when is that idea done? When is the creative process over?
The more I play around with this though I have started to understand that it is never over, I create new game ideas daily, but they rarely ever get to a prototyping stage, rarely ever more then a what if?
But when the thoughts actually materialize into something and you start working on it, […]

Big Game Project: post 1
Time to bring this blog back to life now that me and six others are making a game that is to be presented at the upcoming Gotland Game Conference (GGC). The game is called “A Rat Betwixed” or just simply “Betwixed” as its full name was considered too long for a title. It takes place in the far future in a post apocalyptic Sweden where people has regressed to a socity that is similar to the medival age. It is a […]

Big Game Project first post
Officially the Big Game Project course started a dew weeks ago but unofficially work for many students began several months ago by way of the ”Road to GGC” As it was called which presented an opportunity for students who wanted to prepare for BGP early. A lot of time in my group was spent going back and forth between various concepts, many of them seeming like they could be interesting and worthwhile one day only to look unimpressive, boring or […]

BGP – Day 14
Clean up
It had to be done, I’ve spent today cleaning up folders and files from different unreal projects so that it is all more focused. I needed to prepare them since we are later going to share one project and it is important that I can find and share all my work in one project. What I’m thinking about to look into next is to get the fire to stick to the hand and also have that trigger the material […]

BGP – Day 13
Better late than never!
Well, its not a motto of mine, but last night I didn’t do my daily post. It wasn’t because I haven’t worked, rather the opposite. Since I have dwelled into a lot of subjects that I have never explored before, It can be very tiresome for the mind to try to remember all that new information. I decided to relax for the rest of the evening and prepare for the next day, as me and my girlfriend is going […]
