Why I like Dixit
Today was the culmination of a series of board game analyses we’ve been doing, as we presented our findings to the rest of the class.
Out of the games I analyzed, Dixit has to be my favourite, I’d like to take a minute to explain why.
I first came in contact with Dixit when I saw it played on an episode of Table Top and I instantly knew that I wanted it on my board game shelf.

Major Assignment
Our major assignment for the introduction to game analysis and game design course is to design a space shoot ’em up game that is supposed to be inspired by the words romantic and pencil. I did find those words rather difficult to incorporate into that genre, I first thougt the only thing you could do was something with pencils, either being one or shooting them, and writing love letters. However I thought it would probably be really boring and way to […]

Optimizing Bubbles
Once again we have been asked by our university to display a game (Yomi’s Bubble Adventure) at the annual gamex exhibition at Kista in Stockholm. This is due October the 30th so before that I decided to fix some bugs, minimize memory usage and improve stability. First up is a ninja-fix for the message system used by components which is using more memory then it should. The original system looked like this:
First we had […]

Switching to English.
Switching to English.
I will write the blog in English from now on. The education at Uppsala University Campus Gotland that I started this year want all students to have their own blogs.
Since I started this blog last year but stopped writing in it I thought now would be a good time to bring it back to life. (I might try to translate my Swedish posts later)
So what has happened since last year? Trying to learn how to make games after […]

Serious games “case study” & board games
This week we have only had 1 lecture, which was yesterday (Monday). The lecture was from a former student, who now works for three games and has a past experience as a developer for serious games. The interesting thing to note is how coincidental it seems when some people are lucky enough to land a contract in the gaming industry. They knew someone who had created a webpage (iirc) and that client wanted to create a game about their company.

Let’s get this started, now shall we?

Postmortem on the Reverse Prototyping Workshop
Yesterday, on October 7th, we had a quick lecture on reverse prototyping. After that we got about two hours to analyse any digital game, take out the core mechanics from it, to make a paper prototype using those mechanics. We did this in order to learn how to create certain aesthetics of a game. This is my postmortem of our paper prototype game.
The Game We Chose
So we picked out The Walking Dead, the video game. It is a heavily story-based […]

Group 12
We have now gotten our groups for designing a game. And we got the words, interesteing and suit, to work with. It wassent the easiest words to work with but we landed on a game were you are gonna make a suit by making the individual parts, by flying with a machine that sew it all togheter. While you do it, moths and other things will try to eat the cloth. So you will have kill them by shooting them.

Got some work done!
I was working on a sword for a while in 3DSMax that did no quite work out and because of that, I had to start over.
A few days have passed and I’ve actually managed to create a new sword from scratch and I’m quite happy with the result so far.
All that needs to be done now is to properly texture it. (I think)
