Does games need to be complex in order to be fun?

Last week, we had an assignment in the course Advanced Game Design where we were supposed to play two board games and one role-playing game and write an analysis of them. I will not go into much depth about that, but after some thinking, I wondered if game needs to be “complex” in order to be fun to play. I’m gonna do some reflection over the board games that my group played.
Note that these opinions are my personal ones; not […]

I don’t get it

So I started two pages to represent two courses. I want them to be shown like posts but apparently the pages are not used as a form of categorizing system for posts but just wall of texts? Am I just using them wrong? Anyway until I figure it all out  people have to go into my different pages to see what I’m up to.. 🙁

So it begins

So I’m starting my blog for real now. What that means is that I’m going to write about my University courses and some of my private projects and thoughts. It will all be connected to Game design and games overall. So expects some of that and a lot of grammer and spelling errors 😀

Advanced Game Design

During the latest five weeks I’ve been making systems for games and analyzed them. The most interesting and funnies exercise which thought me the most was when my group and I borrowed three different games to play and analyze. The three different games we chose were Gloom, Kingdoms and Conspiracy X, three very different games which were fun and interesting in their own ways. My favorite game among those three is Gloom, which is a card game where you as […]

Mastery and end game in MMOG´s

So a while ago I had an interesting discussion with a teacher where he said that what makes Massive Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG´s) so hard to design is that there are a big amount of players, that all are different.
His point being that they started playing at different times, they play via different time schedules (some play 6 hours a day, while some play 2), some are quick learners, some are not.
Now the biggest challenge in this is the people […]

Hey, I have a blog!

So.. I make games!
I am currently studying at the University of Uppsala campus Gotland, located in Sweden.
Turns out our teachers are forcing us to create blogs, so here we go!

The blog is a lie!

So, I’m not actually a game developer…or at least not a paid one (yet!). I am currently studying my second year in Game Design and Programming at Uppsala University campus Gotland.
I have never blogged before but now my teachers have forced my hand so here I am. I have no idea what I am actually supposed to write about but i guess that will pan out over time. If not i might just come up with something myself.
Peace!

A Reflection of System Analysis

Let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time there were 2 board games and 1 role-playing game that wanted to be analysed. They wanted to be broken down into their tiniest pieces and then they wanted to know what their systems were. The biggest box Setty was confident in his systems and he feared no one.
– I have a wonderful system that brings shame on others!
Ani said in response:
– I have more cards than you’ll […]
