Nemesis – Level Generating

So, I have been doing some initial work on my dungeon generation this week. It is not quite as I want it yet, but it is getting there.
As it is now, it tries to spawning a random number of rooms between 20 and 39. The world is 100 times 100 tiles and each room is between 5×5 and 9×9. Each room gets 10 tries to find a suitable. A suitable spot is somewhere where it will not put any of […]

Awarded! Finally

So the Swedish Game Awards ceremony went down at the 18th of June so here is the update!
After presenting our game, the station was crowded due to the exterior design of the game and a lot of noises coming from the gathered crowd, we were finally ready for the ceremony that would be held the day after. I was getting everything ready for the evening, chosen my outfit and checking with my brother if he was ready to be picked […]

Swedish Game Awards is up next!

The days are closing in for the Swedish game awards (SGA) event that will be held on the 17th of June. We were nominated for Best Execution in Design and we got the chance to present our game at the event.
We made a few changes to the level after watching people play the game at the GGC, the possibility to fall back into the previous challenge should now have been  fixed, and the title screen would hopefully be more clear to […]

Summer Project – Nemesis

It was a long time since I wrote here last time. A bit over 2 month I think it was, but I will try to remedy that during summer. I should be able to do at least one blog update per week.
During the coming 8 weeks I will be working on a new project which I have named Nemesis. The title is not set in stone, so if I come up with a better one, it will probably change.
The game […]

First Year: Done!

Participating in this game design course at Campus Gotland, University of Uppsala, made me evolve artistically and as a designer. I had come to realize a lot of things, gained experience in new areas, and finally but not least: Taking up drawing again. And this Blog will be the proof for me to recognize my own development.

Three projects where made:
1- Project minetrain: This was to learn how to build and create game concepts, design documents and how to pitch our […]

Sneaky Ninja – Stealth based level design

This is a short blog post with some of my general thoughts and ideas that I got while designing the levels for Sneaky Ninja. This was the first time I designed levels for a stealth game so I thought I would write down some of the problems I encountered and how I solved them.
When I fist started designing the first level for Sneaky Ninja I was thinking about it like a puzzle game, but I quickly realized this was not […]

Post GGC-thoughts

So GGC is now finally over. Despite technical issues and that the demo ghost was present for me during GGC, I was still able to show of what I made during this course.
Feedback on my gameI couple of people came over and tried my game at the Gotland Game Conference. One thing that many people said was that the game needed more polish and that the player should have gotten more feedback, but it is a good base to keep […]

Sneaky Ninja – Level Design

The last two weeks have been very stressful, lots of work have been done in order to finish up our game for the beta that was last week and the final presentation on GGC this week. I’ve worked on a lot of features, implementing GUI, creating highlights for all the items and abilities, implementing sound effects and music, as well as doing general tweaking and bug fixing. But the most fun and interesting thing I have been working on are the […]

Final sprint for GGC

Next weeks is GGC, and I’m now on the last sprint for the prototype that will be shown at the GGC show floor.
And how far have I come with the prototype? Well, I’m basically done with it. All the systems are now functional and almost everything graphics related is implemented. The thing that is left for me to work on a fog-of-war system, add some particle effects, fix a few bugs, change a few numbers in the code, and then […]

Beta is right around the corner!

I have had a lot to do the last couple of weeks, the Alpha has come and gone, and the Beta is right around the corner.
This is what I have been up to.
Firstly I spent a lot of time learning about the A* navigation project, which we switched to because of unity´s navmesh system not supporting detailed enough baking for the size of map we are using.
Switching to A* was quite the task, since we needed to re-write a lot […]

Warbreaking Point Weekly Round-up – May 10th-17th

More and more progress is being done on this game right now.
State Machine ProgressThe work on the finite state machine of the units is going forward; I have one more bug to fix on this front (and I’ve managed to narrow down the possible causes for this bug) and then this part of the units will be done. However so far there hasn’t really been much of a game and that’s another thing that I’ve been working on.
Resource System, Constructing Units and […]
