Penta…Power? Yes please.
Hello, again!
In this post I’ll discuss some assets I’ve recently made for the game I’m currently working on with my group as part of my education.
I’m a member of team Golem and we’re making a Shoot ‘Em Up game called “Burn, Witch, Burn!” about a witch being chased by a mob.
I’ve taken it upon myself to make the spell icons for the game, to show when it’s possible to cast a spell, and to implement the code for it to actually […]

Enemy Design
This one enemy I made for our game ‘Crown of Creation’.
This is a melee enemy that can attack the protagonist with its pincers. I made several researches on insects behaviors and looks before designing one. I based this character on a horned beetle because this type of insect looks more bulky and strong. It corresponds to a melee character. Firstly, I thought of making it have two horns on top of each other on its head like I designed it […]

Working together physically is more rewarding than working from home as a group.
Me and my group members have noticed that it is far more superior to work together in school as a group than sitting at home using skype as our main communication. Our group tries to meet up as much as possible. In general we manage to meet up and work around 4 times a week. We book a room and then just sit down and work together and discuss, even on days we normally have no lectures.
We decide over slack […]

Different Programs, Different Renderings
Who
I am a graphic design student in a game design program. During the first 10 weeks of our second semester in the program; Spring 2017, game design students are assigned to develop a game in an academic process as a group project where the game to be built is based on a concept created by another group during the previous semester. Each team consists of graphic and game designers, programmers, and project managers, all using Scrum as a management method, and […]

Blog Post 2/9/17 Animation 5SD064
The main project I spend most my time working on this week was animations for our game Bullet Hack. The Animation Sprite Sheet above is one of three I have been working on this week on for the Beta Version of our game. The animation is for the main character’s Side-ward Walking Animations (walking left or right). I have also been working on the Upward Walking Animation of our main character this week, but I have been running into problems […]

5SD06 First post. Talking about the camera issues.
I’m Tobias Holm and I’m the lead programmer in the group “Fenrir”.In this post i will discuss the problems I had with the camera system in our game.
Our game concept is “Bullet_Hack”. The main theme of the game is a split screen system where you play a pseudo stealth game on one screen and a space shooter, while you hack doors and other things, on the other.
This sounded fairly simple to create when we first started on the game, but […]

Dev: Crown of Creation, Part 1, An Enemy
In our game Crown of Creation, we have designed three types of enemies, all of which are Bugs. I am responsible for two of them, and this is my second, of which I am very happy with the design, compared to my first one. The cyan color comes from energy crystals in the game. All living creatures use them to get power, so I needed the design to show that in some way. Since this enemy’s main design feature is […]

Time for animation!
This week has been all about animation for the game me and my team (Bunnyip) are working on. Since the game is all about fishes, I created an animation for our fishy protagonist Stephen. Since I already had created Stephen the week before, I did not have all the design decisions to think about like colors, shapes, texture etc. I had all the different assets in separate layers so everything can be changed easy. (The eyes, eyelids, eyebrow, gun etc.)
What I […]

Game Design 2 – Sound design of the GUI (Team Leviathan)
Author : Arnaud Mimoun
The assets that I am going to review this week are the 3 sounds of our Menu.
There a sound for when you are pressing a button of the menu
One for when you are going back on the menu
And finally one for when you launch the game
I as Producer, Project Manager and Sound Designer of our game was charged to build the sounds of our game. Just like all the sounds in our […]

Week 1 – The first sprint
What
For the first sprint for our game I was tasked to create our basic player avatar. We needed them to be able to move, shoot and aim for the main function of the game. We wanted to have a testable game as soon as possible, so this was a priority. For this I needed to make:
Some basic player movement capabilities.
Basic player collisions between themselves, enemies and game boundaries.
Basic projectiles with collision.
The player being able to shoot these projectiles.
The player being […]
