Scrum – Working Method
Working in a team -especially one that is creating something from nothing- is not an easy task and it’s very important to have a set frame for the working process to make sure that all goes as smoothly as possible. We are currently working in the agile method Scrum. A process where every step of the way is surveyed, tested and prioritized.
The basic idea goes like this; the overall goal is set early on and broken down […]

Blog #4 Sound introduction
I’m the lead sound in our group, but I’ve never worked with sound before. Therefore, this week has introduced me to a couple of software programs for working with sound. It’s mainly been Audacity, Soundly and Sony Vegas. Although Sony Vegas is for both video and audio editing, that is the one I ended up using the most – as I’ve dealt with it before to some degree. I find it really good for easily dragging around and cutting sound […]

Blog #4: Making a sound from scratch
Hi!
I’m Léo, Scrum Master and sound dude of team Wendigo. In today’s blogpost, I will discuss how I made the sound of the enemy squid shooting. In our game, “Umibōzu”, the squid is an enemy that shoots ink projectiles. Like all enemies, obstacles, and power ups in the game, when the squid is in the darkness, it is only visible as a silhouette to the player.
Silhouettes everywhere…
Only when the fishing boat’s spotlight is shone on a silhouette is the true […]

+1 Love to All Party Members
“Cho Aniki already perfected shoot ’em ups, so what are we even doing?”
We have all asked this question in our time here. This way of thinking is not helpful. We as game students already have so many new challenges and responsibilities to navigate, an existential crisis over our work is the last thing we need. Each of us is having our own struggles, but we are also part of a group. While that means we potentially have more support, it […]

Adapt to circumstances and grow as a team. Blog post 4
Working in sprint 6 we are now close to Beta. All core movement, features and challenges area supposed to be implemented (at least close to finalized) and between Beta and the Final version of the game there will be time only for tuning and polishing the game.
Our goal for this sprint is the final challenge, the boss fight if you wish. The sprint planning now works smooth for group Kraken. It works like this:
I show the user story for […]

My third comment was for Johan’s post
My comment was as follows
Thank you for this post. It was interesting to see what aspects of scrum has worked for your team, as well as what has been more challenging. I agree with you that a “fun” development process increases the chance of a good product.
As mentioned in the comment above, your post did not give me a “ranty” impression, and for the most part I had no problem following your thought […]

My second comment was for Felix’s post
My comment was as follows
Hi Felix.
I was able to read your post without struggles because of the clear divisions between the different features you’ve worked on. The text is coherent which means I can easily follow your thought process, and your reasoning seems logical and on point. The description of your process was detailed, but without unnecessary ramblings of text. I especially appreciate the decision you made to put less pressure on your […]

My comments on others blogs; No.1-6.
Blog comment no.1:
I think you have made an excellent first blog-post about the art-design of an enemy-design and why it differs from the other flying and buzzing creatures which are supposed to be the player. I also think that your personal and reflective thoughts show well through this text and it feels like I get to know you as a person, understanding your likings and dislikings. In this text you clearly show the changes from the process when you apply […]

Design Feedback – 2
I feel you have in a clear manner explained the design decisions behind the new power-up. I did test your game and was not entirely clear what the power-up was and how I was affected by it. The new one seems very interesting indeed. Two things I would like to adress it how you are going to communicate to the player that it you should press down either ALT or CTRL for the different power-up. Since the given aesthetic is […]

You write in a clear and understanding way. Even though it is hard to get an image of “scrum” per se, it would have been something that would make the blog post more attractive. I get the general idea of scrum when reading your post and what it has done for the team overall. I would have liked to know more what in depth, what you put in the backlog and how it affected your work. Did you have to […]

Design Feedback – 1
I feel that the blog for this week is very direct on its subject. To break down a character and its features with User Stories. It shows that you have thought carefully about the design behind the whale and then taking it to your team to discuss it ever further. You address it as a team effort and it is vital to use User Stories, in order to break down and question the different aspects of the whale. I definitely […]
