2018
Wow, a lot of things have happened since I last wrote here but I figured that I might as well keep on writing. Writing is always a good thing to keep up. So, what’s new is that I am no longer working with Penny’s farm. I started to learn how to program with C# and, to work on my own project while I have an extra job on the side to retain some income during the summer. I may also […]

ego vs. eco

ego is poison.
family is antidote.
if we all are a healthy family, certain members can be weak sometimes, without a problem.
cherish others FOR their weaknesses AND their strengths.
show your vulnerability.
when you feel like crying, cry.
don’t let it stew, don’t let it turn into violence.
show that you can’t always be strong.
and when you are, it is for them.
even if it is for you, it is for them.
because we are integral parts of each other’s lives and therefor each other!
try to show your […]

5SD064-Postmortem of final result (upgraded)

Yeah!! Finally I had successfully made the game Umibozu with 2 months hard work of me and my other 5 group members. I am personally pretty satisfied with the outcome of the game as it is the very first game I’ve ever made and it’s playable (for 6 minutes long!!) At the final playtesting we have received all kinds of feedback from our classmates and a lot of them are positive regarding aesthetics of the game, especially we have gotten quite […]

Blog Post 6. New.

It has been very fun to work with my group and to make assets for the game.
I am not so glad with the end result of the project. Our lead programmer has left the course and we had already over scoped the game before that happened so as a result many assets which were ready to be implemented into the final game were left out. This included the boss, the boss environment, all animations and 2 more enemy types and […]

The Project Starts

Group Raksasha chose “Fear is in me” as their project and it will be their first attempt to make a digital game until now. The story of the game is about a small girl who is having nightmares every night and her nightmares come true at some point. They chase her all the time and now it’s our job to save her. From the design decisions that the group made, they all came to the conclusion of not providing her […]

Blog #6 The postmortem 2

After all these weeks of stress and hard work, the project has finally come to an end. In my final blog post I will cover what both the team and me individually have learned throughout the development process of Into the fog.
Where to begin? At the beginning! Very early into the project during a design meeting the group had a discussion about scoping. We have chosen a concept document of Umibozu, as we believed it was designed with small teams […]

Blog 3 Redux: Scrumroll Please

While working on the game “Aetherial,” my group and I are applying the development framework known as Scrum. Before I began this course, I didn’t even know what Scrum was, let alone how to apply it. Fortunately, it is fairly easy to grasp.
The bread and butter of Scrum is the “Product Backlog.” A product backlog is where everything that needs to be included in the game to create a ‘minimal viable product’ is placed and organized based on things such […]

Blog 6 Redux: I’ll Kick the Spear Habit This Time. Honest.

After a period of ten weeks where a fair few felt like days and months at the same time, Archon completed the game “Aetherial.”
What is Aetherial?
Aetherial (or rather, Group Archon’s interpretation of Aetherial) is a 2D shoot ’em up where the player flies through the sky in an airship. The player can fire a harpoon as a normal attack, but may use the limited “Aether” available to them for two special abilites. They can fire homing missiles that return to […]

Hi Jan,
Glad to hear you guys had team spirit! This is a great blog post that takes the reader on a journey through the final results of your game, and I’m glad to read that you had a lot of things working for your group, as well as for your game. I played your game, and I never noticed that the level was generic, nor did I care that much about the music being the same. […]

This is a very clear blogpost on the benefits of playtesting. I also very much enjoy that you explain that playtesting is positive if you let your ego down and enter it with an open mind. The post also explains very well the type of criticism that you guys received during your playtest, such as the movement of your main character and using one of your buttons as a spam, both of which are criticism that […]

This is a very detailed and interesting post with good English and even better information for future students.
After reading this, I must say, as a programming student, that it sounds like there was a whole lot of coding going on to achieve this animation sequence in your game. You share very good information that is easy to read and gives a great idea of how to achieve a the programming sequence and features to achieve the […]

Its fascinating how different your Scrum planning worked for you, compared to my experiences.
This post gives a great, basic idea of what scrum is and how it has helped your group, but for me, the scrum effect did not really kick in until around the beginning of the Alpha week, and now it helps me more than ever. Therefore, it’s quite fascinating to read how you, as an […]
