Museum Assignment
This week we went to the Gotland Museum, after being given a tour we were asked to find an object that we wanted to model in the 3D-course and take reference photos of it.
I chose this chalice after discussing with my teacher, the reason I chose it was because I wanted to create something that would give me a challenge, while still being able to complete it. It was a bit difficult to choose as I felt that most […]

The assignments is starting to Show
Hello again!
We have as of now been handed out our first real game development assignment as we are to use the things we have learnt so far in the course. As for example MDA that we have studied last week and to come up with our own version of an creeping doom game where we are supposed to give the player the sensation that they are going to make it in time and survive, as well at the same time […]

Creeping doom and scary games
What is horror games? Does it make you feel afraid or does it just scream in you face?Horror games has the last years had a really dull view of fear. The game industry thinks that simply a monster in a closet will get us happy and content with the scare factor. And while monsters can be scary, just having them chase us is not enough to make a good horror game. Dead Space wants to call itself a horror game, […]

Analysis of Klondike – From computer to reality
How to use mechanics in a way the player can remembers, use and enjoy.
I’m gonna use the same picture this time around too because I like it and it is an accurate depiction on how a game of Klondike looks when played on a computer.
And this is how Klondike looks on my kitchen table. Both these games have the same mechanics, dynamics and aesthetics. The big difference between these two is that […]

Analysis of Klondike – Effective submission game design
You probably have this game on your computer. It’s an all time classic to play when bored and it can be a really addicting pastime. The colors of the cards is the most important lesson!
Klondike is a form of solitaire which means single player card games. I think most people would recognize this game through their computer since it’s one of windows most classic “games which comes with the machine”. I also think almost everyone has […]

A deck of cards and unlimited potential
The plan is to get a habit of doing something creative. Let’s take a look at the many games that uses playing cards!
“Read everything. Cut them open. Steal their power.” -Warren Ellis
Those are words from a comic author about improving your craft. for game designers, this could easily translate into play games ehu! But that doesn’t cut it alone, because that’s not giving you anything back. The analytic part is what creates improvement, and this is where my new plan […]

Optimizing 3D
This week we have been optimizing our crates that we created last week. We were divided into groups of three and all got to optimize a crate made by the others and one that you made yourself. There is not much I can say or anything new to show of my medieval and my urban contemporary crate as my colleagues that were tasked with optimizing them found nothing to fix.
I believe that this is because of their simple natures, […]

Catching Up!
Allright so now my blog should be up and running! Interesting, new concept for me.
September 1st i got on the ferry from Stockholm, capital of Scandinavia, to Visby, Gotland.
I barely had the time to go pick up the keys to my appartment and load in all my things before i had to head down to Wisby Strand Congress Hall for a warm welcome to my new university. We were greeted with a number of great, inspiring speeches and a fantastic […]

Semantics and semiotics
Ok, so let’s talk about design.
C.S. Peirce, American philosopher and founder of pragmatism, defines the semiotic sign as ”something that stands for something, to someone in some capacity”
This concept is straight forward enough, if I play Batman Arkham Origins and I want to continue the story I look for the sign on the map that tells me where to go next. It is a sign, that stands for ”story continues here”, to me in the capacity of player.
But wait, then […]
