3D Week 3

This weeks post will be coming in 2 parts, first a part where I write about the optimization of the crates and later a part about the upcoming task where I will show pictures of an object that I’m going to model in the near future.
Part 1: Optimizing the crates
Post apocalyptic crate

This is the crate that was optimized by Folland Rickard. To the left we have the original model and to the right we have the optimized one.

3D Assignment 2 – The Strange Brooch

Greetings!
Earlier this week our class visited the museum to pick out an object and then later om model that one in 3D. I chose this object:

A box you ask? Nope, it’s actually a brooch! A weird looking one I admit. Used around the year 900. It was apparently used for women apparel, must have been some heavy clothing this brooch held together.
I chose this object for the interesting texturing it proposed, with all the small golden details and so on. […]

3D Week 3 – The Optimum Crate

Greetings!
So, this week I went through the process of optimizing the crates I made last week. In groups of three we gave each other one of our crates and let that person optimize that crate. It was interesting in the way of looking how other people worked and viewed certain things, something that should be done more in all kinds of education.
The crates I had made where pretty simplistic as I mentioned last week, so they didn’t need that much […]

Roll out the mechs, 3D week 3

Hello again, last week’s blogpost I said that I would make a vehicle from one of four concepts. Since it’s too badass to resist I chose the mech. I felt like it was the logical thing to do because it seemed like an interesting challenge. When I finally decided I immediately went in to pre-production.

The mech I decided for

Besides the concept we were also to choose a game in which this model we are to make […]

3D – Week 3 – Preparing for Assignment 2

This past Tuesday we went to visit the Gotland Museum, and after taking a tour through the museum we got to choose one object that we want to model and texture during our 3D classes. When we’d chosen an object we were to take reference photos of it.
I looked at many different objects, and took a lot of photos of everything that I thought might be interesting to try and model. I realized that there were a couple of objects […]

Week 38: Optimising Edge Flow

This week we have been focusing on optimising our models, working together in groups and cleaning up each other’s objects. It’s a step easily overlooked at times, but certainly among the most important. Despite living in a time of unprecedented information storage it still has its limits. And not everyone can afford the cutting edge. Without optimisation you’d exclude a large potential player base simply because you didn’t bother making models in your game less information-packed with polygons.
Science Fiction Crate […]

Trying to remember how long I´ve been stranded on this island.. 3 weeks I think since I started and so far I haven’t had any second thoughts. The lectures are interesting, the teachers are nice and the school is great. The structure has been somewhat messy to say the least but I´m sure I´ll manage it eventually. SOO many books, I don’t know where to start, but I´m just going to concentrate on the lectures for now. The assignments have been fun up until […]

Week 2 – Genre Analysis.

Unfortunately, I was sick last week and missed both 3D lectures. This made me miss that week’s assignment and blog post where the students had to create 3 different crates based on different genres in games, but I thought that I could do a variant of that assignment. I can chose three genres and analyze their environment art to see what builds those genres and to see if there is any similarities between the different games within the same genre.

3D I Assignment 2: Part 1

The class was taken to the Gotland Museum to hear about the history of the island as well as take pictures of old objects that we can use for reference for our second assignment. I have chosen to model this medieval jug. It’s estimated to have been made during the 12th century, so it is around 700 years old. It fell to my liking since it seems to have been coated with some kind of glaze so the colors and […]
