3D Graphics week 2
This weeks assignment was to create crates following 3 different themes. We were allowed to choose from: Medieval, Sci-Fi, Urban contemporary, Post apocalyptic or Cartoony.
The initial three I picked were:
1. Medieval
This is how my first crate turned out! The idea I had when I decided to make a medieval crate was to make a crate entirely out of ”wood”, this is the reason for the plank-like structure on each of the 6 sides of the crate. When looking at […]

Intro – The new Life
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen (or any other persons who reads this)!
As i start on this i have been studying Game Design and Programming on Uppsala University Campus Gotland for about two weeks. This is very short time but feels like a lot longer. It’s been very interesting and it’s exciting to see where it leads.
Gamer is a term thrown around a lot among and at people studying Game Design, but it’s a very loose term and the meaning varies […]

3D Crates and stuff
This week in the 3D course, we worked with creating three crates in 3 different themes, we chose what themes we wanted to use from five given to us. They were 1) Sci-fi, 2) Urban contemporary, 3) Post-apocalyptic, 4) Medieval, 5) Cartoony.
For my first crate I made a milk crate in a Sci-fi theme
In this theme if you look at other games you see a lot of sharp and beveled edges, and hard surfaces.
Here’s a screenshot from Halo and star […]

Affordances as tropes and why they’re a creative gold mine
Lately we’ve been talking a lot about affordances in games. For those who doesn’t know affordances are what a player perceives as an opportunity to play. Affordances are present in all design, like how a door might have a handle on one end and a bar on the other. It simply makes the act of pulling or pushing the door more intuitive.
Some affordances are actually a real opportunity to play, like when you’re exploring a game and you see a […]

Hello!
This is just a test post to see how the blog works. I’ve never really followed blogs before, nor made one myself, so it will probably take me a while to fully understand what is going on.
Hopefully everything works.

DnD and SiSSYFiGHT
Character design idea for a Viking inspired by Gotland.
During this week we’ve been playing and modifying SiSSYFiGHT. In our group we tried to change the aesthetic from school yard girls bullying each other to blood mages having a battle of spells. When we later got a memo saying we had to make the game educational for young children we changed it again to be just regular mages who had to spell their spells in order to cast them. We tried […]

Fail fast, Fail better
I am currently studying Game Design and Programming at Uppsala University, two weeks in to it, with the intention to be a game designer. Like many others I have hopes and dreams and would of course like to say that I am going to be the best designer that there ever will be. But I know that to get to that point I am going to have to learn a lot.
One of my lecturers has said that we are going to […]

Week 37: Visual Styles in Games and Creating Simple 3D Game Assets
This week we’ve been through the menus and tools in 3DS Max to a greater extent, to then apply what we’ve learned onto various objects that we make. Namely crates. Having several themes to choose from, I made an attempt to create objects from an Urban, Cartoon and Sci-Fi setting. Not just because they were the easiest to distinguish between, but also because they would enable me to experiment a lot more with shapes in very distinct ways.
Urban
Characteristics:
Cheap
Lack of […]
