Board Game Analysis – Pandemic

Me and a group of fellow students have played a board game called Pandemic and this is my analysis of it.
Pandemic is meant to be played by two to four players. The game board consists of a world map of earth with capital cities used as locations. Each location/city on the game board has a color. There are four different city colors, the same amount of colors as there are diseases in the game.
The goal of the game is to work […]

3D Crates

This week we have been modelling crates in 3D class, here is the result of Wednesday’s workshop.

Medieval
The medieval theme is characterized by organic shapes and forms, even geometric forms would have an organic feel to them due to the crude tools that would be available in the world. Using sharp clean lines and geometric forms would take away from the historical illusion. Textures used in this theme are mostly metal, wood, stone and cloth.

Skyrim is an excellent example of […]

Board game analysis: Smallworld

When we started this assignment we had an array of board games to choose from, after some brief consideration (since no group member had an extensive knowledge of board games) we decided to just pick one that looked fun, and that game became Smallworld.
Smallworld is a strategy game with small similarities to Risk. The goal of the game is to gather coins and at the end of the game (after 9 turns or so, depending on the amount of players) […]

3D I, Week 2

This week in 3D we discussed IPs and visual styles. During the workshop, we were instructed to create three models of crates, each with a different theme. The themes we had to choose from were sci-fi, urban contemporary, post-apocalyptic, medieval and cartoony.

Crate A: Cartoony
The theme I chose for my first crate was cartoony. Of the different themes we were assigned, it’s definitely the one I’m the most comfortable and familiar with.
I’d say simplification is the basic trait of cartoon […]

System analysis of Capitals

Introduction
Our group (3) played Capitals, a tabletop card game, where you race to build 8 (or 7) districts and have the highest score at the end. To achieve this, you get to choose among 9 different heroes (with a set of 2 different heroes ranged from 1 to 9), the lower the number, the earlier you get to play your hand.
When it is your turn to play (unless you’re assassinated), you get to choose an action, which is either draw […]

Board Game analysis: Drakborgen.

For the course Advanced Game Design we have been tasked with playing and analyzing the system of a board game of our choise. We did this in a group of 7 people and the game we chose was “Drakborgen”.
Core mechanics
The game is played with four people at the time where each player controls an adventurer exploring an abandoned castle and makes it out with as much treasure as possible. The player that manages to carry the most treasure out […]
