BGP: First post
Having started off Big Game Project it’s inevitable to do an info dump or two on it. Last week I designed and started modeling the three interchangeable weapons for the main character. We knew we wanted one light melee, one heavy aoe and one weapon for the ranged attack so the design kicked off from there. We also knew the game was going for a pun- and reference-heavy humor so designing weapons like The Banhammer (sledgehammer) or The Good Game […]

Big Game Project
Big game project
BGP is our second big project in our program. The course is a 10 weeks course but with around 7 weeks development. Our team has 7 members, 2 programmers, 4 artists and 1 designer/producer. The game is named Kei and is a 3D action game with a 45 degree top down view.
This is Kei. Kei is a gamer and she loves all kind of games. But suddently she is not welcome in the GameTown anymore, neither are Kei’s […]

A new Game Project
!!I!!
As spring comes along and warms people up, it is time to start on a new game project to fill the days with endless wonder.
But where to start?
What type of project should one choose?
What to do with it and on it?
For a start it will be school project and hopefully after that it continues to evolve into a full game with all feature that can be appropriate and allowing the player to experience the vision of the designers. As it […]

BGP week 2
Alright, week 2. This week I mostly focused on the jungle. I made vegetation assets like bamboo, grass and trees and some rocks that the player can pick. Most of these assets will probably be improved upon at some point but at the moment we just want to get as much props as possible to test the game. I also started creating the elevator the villagers use to travel between the jungle and the floating islands.

BGP week 1
So this week our class started our Big game project course. My group are making a game called Kalevala which is based on an old finnish national epic containing 50 different rune songs. I am responsible for character art. We are going for a quite simplistic style with inspiration from finnish artists such as Tove Jansson and Joseph Alanen.
Here are some of the concept sketches and early 2d characters I made 🙂

Big Game Project – Week 1
This post is a little late is we are soon starting week 3 but I’ll take it from the start. The first week we mostly talked about the game, trying to further define the concept.
So, our game is a top down(viewed from an angle, like WC3 or Diablo) strategi game mixed with the survival genre. It is a single player game, where you manage your village up on floating islands. The people of the planet bellow moved up to these […]

#1-2 Big Game Project | Behaviour Trees vs Finite Statemachines
So I’ve started a new game project, the game is developed during the course Big Game Project at my university and I’m developing the game together with five other team members.
The first week started off with us creating a backlog and setting up a new Unity 5.0 project and linking it to a new repository. We decided what we wanted to prototype first and came to realize that in order to prototype anything we would need to implement behaviour trees […]
