First of all, a great post! You seem to care a lot for proper preparation and team feedback before any works gets done, which is definitely a big plus for your group. I really enjoyed the overview of your key features, and it’s a really interesting example that you have used as well. Breaking down artifacts into smaller components seems like a great way to reduce possibility of miscommunication/misunderstanding, and I will definitely try it out as well.

Hello, Merve it’s a good post you have here!
I liked how you chose and covered three important aspects to game development: Your work/experience, Scrum and playtesting. It gives your perspective on what has happened and your experience with it clearly. It is also clear that you have learned a lot during this project which will benefit you in future projects. The only thing I am missing is your opinion on the end result, are you happy […]

In response to Michaels post mortem, that can be found here.
Hi Michael, I want to start of by congratulating you on completing your project! I did get a chance to play the game and while I was one of the testers that did not agree with the difficulty of the game, the controls certainly made it feel like operating a strange machine, a good thing in your case.
Your postmortem blog post is clearly structured and nicely summarized how your […]

Hello Alec!
I am glad that you are happy outcome of the project and that you learned something in the process.
As you brought up the minimum viable product, it came to me that I never even had a thought of this during my teams project. To see that teams had difficulties with this, will hopefully help me in the long run as well, so thank you for bringing this up in advance.
One thing that confused me a little […]

Managerial postmortem

Student group members would say in perfect unison “With little or no experience, we did our best, to make the game”, to summarize the project. But individual student members in different minors might bring different overlook on the project. From a perspective of a project manager I would like to summary the project itself in following parts: goal, purpose, playtesting, prerequisites, and progress.
Project goal. The goal of the project to produce the game according to the concept and course requirements […]

Hello Lina! First I want to congratulate you on a really fantastic game. I was more than impressed with what you guys created.
Your post is well-structured and easy to follow. You clearly describe the different aspects related to your work, both the good and the bad. Something I think you did a really good job of, is explaining why you do certain practices or why something can be beneficial or detrimental.
Your post is valuable and I really like […]

Here’s the comment to Kristina’s postmortem:

Hey Kristina!
You really managed to cover a lot in your post! Short recap, some difficulties along the process, some design decision, a mention about backlog. My favourite part is about the gem. Your example shows that there is a multitude of ways of presenting what a game is about and its’ objective by neither needless text nor explicitly pointing something out. We are only limited by boundaries of our creativity!
In fact, all […]

Now ten weeks have gone by and at last, the game is completed. What kind of game was created in the end? The umibozu that we made became a semi-open world where there is less focus on the player shooting rather it is the enemies obstructing your way and shooting at you throughout the level.
The goal of the game is to reach four individual landmarks that give clues to what is attacking you and how to appease it in order […]

Ten weeks have passed and Beelonging is finally done. It’s surreal. Having a finished product; a product I’m genuinely proud of, is something I have difficulty grasping. I’m proud of the end result and I’m blessed that I had the chance to work with such amazing people. Everyone should undoubtedly be proud of their accomplishments. However, aside from the success of working together, there have been some bumps on the road. We didn’t encounter major issues, but there were situations […]

At the start of this project, our group had some issues when it came to deciding on how we wanted the game to look and whether or not we wanted to stick to the original concept document. After some short discussions, we decided that we would try and stick to the original concept as much as possible. Since some many other groups had also chosen Umibozu and we figured that they would be moving away from the original concept in order to […]
