Hello, Merve it’s a good post you have here!
I liked how you chose and covered three important aspects to game development: Your work/experience, Scrum and playtesting. It gives your perspective on what has happened and your experience with it clearly. It is also clear that you have learned a lot during this project which will benefit you in future projects. The only thing I am missing is your opinion on the end result, are you happy […]

Blog post #6 Postmortem

Now ten weeks have gone by and at last, the game is completed. What kind of game was created in the end? The umibozu that we made became a semi-open world where there is less focus on the player shooting rather it is the enemies obstructing your way and shooting at you throughout the level.
The goal of the game is to reach four individual landmarks that give clues to what is attacking you and how to appease it in order […]

Hi Sasa
it’s clear that you had a good experience at the Beta playtest and there was as you write a better atmosphere than in the Alpha playtest. Now regarding your post, you write about what you kind of question you asked the player and the general feedback which is good. The feedback is tied to your aesthetic goal (good) however you do not state if the goals have been completely met or what you’re going to do with this feedback. […]

Blogpost #5 Playtesting

Playtesting is a vital component when it comes to the development of a game. It’s through playtesting that you get feedback from ideally the target group of your game. This feedback gives you a heads-up whether you are working towards the goal or if there is something steering you adrift. There are different kinds of playtesting where the objectives behind it differ. It could be playtesting from a technical or aesthetic standpoint. Each playtesting gives different feedback to build upon.

Post in question
Hi Michael
I really love your post and I think it’s something all new managers should read at the beginning of the year. This post gives a great insight into management and teams. Specifically, what some necessary components to become a high-functioning team. It is as you write not as simple as to just put together an all-star team, which you showcase both with theories and your own reflections from your experience of this academic year.
The format of […]

Blog Post #4 Background music

!Link to sound clip at the end!
Welcome back once again to my blog, today I will tell you about my design process with the background music as the lead sound designer of team Cockatrice.
Take a moment and picture yourself in this situation. You are out at sea on a chilly night, it’s hard to anything and it’s critical that you are able to navigate through these waters to get home. The wind is in your face, you’re shivering from the […]

Comment made on Mija Causey’s blog post
This blog post has a clear purpose and good flow throughout.
I like how you compare how the group work has been improved by scrum by comparing it to last year and the work flow then. It gives a better basis to analyse and see how things have changed since then and in what ways scrum have contributed to this. It would have been nice if you brought up concrete examples to compare between […]

Comment made on Edvin Broberg’s post
First of all I applause you for your structure and use of language.
In this blog post you come with a lot of new information but you present it in a concise manner that is easy to follow. Not once was the red thread lost and each paragraph has a clear topic. It is a clear timeline on how you did the work with some reasonings on why you did it.
I really like how you […]

Blog Post #3 The fantastic remedy of Scrum… is it?

On can say that scrum was born as the solution to a problem that occurs in almost every traditional project: Miscommunication. Scrum is often defined as a tool, process and continues on in that flow however, Scrum is more than that. For scrum to work it is not enough that you go through the motions but it requires an understanding of why it is done as Scrum in its essence is a philosophy.
When we started the project we did not […]

Blog post #2 Monster approach sound

!Link to the music clip at the end!
Team Cockatrice is building a Japanese mythology inspired game. In this game, you as the player traverse a foggy sea while mythical monsters try to get in your way. Even though there are enemies, the game is more about the feeling of threat and the sense of adventure without actually being in danger. So how do you design sound for these monsters?
This week I made several sound effect clips, amongst them were the […]
