Game Development Log 1.
This post will be about a specific artifact in our game, Fancy Mansion.
Specifically, the design-choices and drawing of the moneybag, used as an item to be picked up to increase the players overall score in the game.
Fancy Mansion is a game about picking things up and increasing your own monetary value by stealing items. In order to represent a valuable items, first of all we chose iconic objects to symbolize this. The first object, the most basic design, was a […]

Green Warden: Week 4 – player character animation
I didn’t update my blog last week, apologies! Things have been very busy lately.
This week I’ve been working with animating the player character.
The player character is a dryad whose goal is to protect the forest where they live. The forest is being invaded by goblins who wants to destroy everything and build factories there instead. They want to destroy the life tree, which is the source of life of everything in the forest. As the dryad, you don’t have any […]

Week 4 Game Development.
It is pre-alpha week. The team has been working hard to make our MVP for this weeks deadline. The main point of the MVP is to show the core mechanics. As MVP do not really need fully animated sprites I did not have any pressure on me. Although being ahead of schedule is always a good thing.
Today I made the animated sprite for our main character the mole.
So here is the walking animation for the mole. The perspective of […]

Week 4, Game design
This is the 4th week of our group project and 3rd week using scrum. For those who are not familiar with the scrum method, it is a way of planning projects by breaking them down in to smaller parts and making weekly deadlines. This also helps noticing where problems start to stack up and where deadlines needs to be changed. The team using scrum estimates their work hours and then see how long it actually took when finished. This way […]

Game Development – Introduction: Week 2
So week 2! During week 2 we continued working on our Scrum-document and worked on a visual style for the game.
We decided to go for a tropical theme for our game partially so that we could draw on themes like the exploitation of rainforests and the era of colonization and partially because it would allow us to work with very saturated colors for the plants and protagonist and contrast against the enemy side’s metallic shades of grey and brown.
We needed to pick a style that […]

Progressing in colors
Hi!
I have been busy with a lot of schoolwork lately, doing different assignments and not much of them are aesthetic things which I could present here.
I am working hard right now on a concept and hope that I get a “green light” to do it, I have failed this far to get it done right and still are struggling with it. The thing is that I have a hard time explaining it in English so that it can become understandable.
Anyways, I have […]

2D-Graphics, Theory and Application II: Week 1 + Week 2
First week in the new graphics course! We pretty much picked up where we left it off with 2D-Graphics, Theory and Application I.
Week 1:
The first week consisted of repeating some perspective practices. For our home assignment that week we had to first, draw our kitchen in either 1- or 2-point-perspective and then redesign it according to an existing IP. I have to admit that with the project taking up so much of our time and with the assignments being more […]

Ambient Pressure – Second week
This was the first week we really started working seriously on the game, after choosing the concept last week. We met our Scrum Master on Monday morning and started assigning everyone tasks for this week. My job this week was to create concept art for the game; of the characters, the game in general and such.
The game is about a diver who’s on a mission to find out what’s going on with the underwater life in a specific place, there’s been […]

Game Development – Introduction: Week 1
New course, new project!
Our big assignment in this 10 weeks long course is to turn one of the concepts that were made by all students during the previous course into a playable game while using the Scrum-framework for project management.
Our milestones for this project are:
———————————————————————————————–
Week 1 (19th January – 25th January):
– No hand-ins
Week 2 (26th January – 1st February):
– Write down feature definitions for our intended game and breaking these down into concrete tasks for code, art, audio and […]
