Big Game Project (week9)

The course ’’Big Game Project’’ has now passed and our game Tower Offensive was displayed at Gotland Game Conference last week. During three days people were allowed to play our game among with many other games created by other students at Uppsala University Campus Gotland.
It was extremely fun to see so many people playing and enjoying our game, we also received much valuable feedback which we can use to improve our game in the future.
I didn’t have too big expectations […]

Post GGC-thoughts

So GGC is now finally over. Despite technical issues and that the demo ghost was present for me during GGC, I was still able to show of what I made during this course.
Feedback on my gameI couple of people came over and tried my game at the Gotland Game Conference. One thing that many people said was that the game needed more polish and that the player should have gotten more feedback, but it is a good base to keep […]

Gotland Game Conference 2014 – Day Three

Well, this one is kinda late. I guess it’s a good thing I’m still the same old me despite all of my experience (or maybe not). So… the GGC awards ceremony was the other day and it was rather dramatic. We didn’t win, but we weren’t expecting it either so that’s about it I guess. I was at least hoping that we would be nominated but I’d still be happy with not being that either.
I wasn’t expecting them to forget […]

Gotland Game Conference 2014 – Day Two

I’m actually really tired so I’m not gonna drag on for too long.
Got to try a few new games today.
Outrageous Office (Anarchy Catfish Entertainment)This game is actually opposite ours… and not only that, it has an eerily similar idea for an input. Really fun game though, love th art style, music and the overall idea. A Knight’s Flail (Flying Turtles)The third Kinect game (the first one being ours and the second one being the entry above this one). This game […]

Gotland Game Conference 2014 – Day 1

Today was the first day of the conference, I arrived at 8 o’ clock with my team members and we got ready to set our game up and prepare for the days ahead. The first day is just a warmup however as there will only be students, teachers, staff, speakers (for the speeches on the following days) and the jury so the day was relatively calm and I had plenty of time to test some of the games on the […]

Mechropolis Trailer

Here is the trailer for our new game, Mechropolis!
Explore a long gone civilization and fuse together the only inhabitants left, the robots, to solve puzzles and make your way through the cave!
I think Kenth made a great job with the trailer and it really captures the feeling of our game.

Particle effects

One week left until Gotland Game Conference! Since I had finished my assigned work, but we still needed particle effects, I took the responsibility to fix that. These are the effects I needed to do:

Attack projectile
Attack trail
Attack when hitting target
Robots when being Stunned
Stun Idle for Robots
Robots when being Fused
Steam for the environment
Dust cloud for environment

This is the first time that I have ever worked with particle effects and it was a bit tricky to get the hang of it. I have […]

Final sprint for GGC

Next weeks is GGC, and I’m now on the last sprint for the prototype that will be shown at the GGC show floor.
And how far have I come with the prototype? Well, I’m basically done with it. All the systems are now functional and almost everything graphics related is implemented. The thing that is left for me to work on a fog-of-war system, add some particle effects, fix a few bugs, change a few numbers in the code, and then […]

Beta is right around the corner!

I have had a lot to do the last couple of weeks, the Alpha has come and gone, and the Beta is right around the corner.
This is what I have been up to.
Firstly I spent a lot of time learning about the A* navigation project, which we switched to because of unity´s navmesh system not supporting detailed enough baking for the size of map we are using.
Switching to A* was quite the task, since we needed to re-write a lot […]

Fire

I have been spending some time now setting things on fire, at the moment for the main menu where there will be several animations, some of them fire.
Fire is quite a tricky and tedious thing to animate, but it is also in a sense quite forgiving since the movement of fire will look more realistic if it is not completely fluid. I have been spending almost the entire day today animating fire and I thought I would make a quick […]
