Weekly assignment #1 Enemy Character.
Hello everyone!
The second course of game design has begun, and Team 13 (The ones who made Magic Writer) has been assigned to make a game for real this time.
All the games we have made this far has been only to design them, so everything you do on paper before you actually code and make the graphics for the game. We decided to take Team Mole Munch game, and make it a playable game.
We are about four weeks in, and I […]

Unity, and the passion to actually do something.
This will be kind of a dev-blog post. It was not intended intended to be a series of posts, just this one, and maybe another to show of the final product. But this post turned out to be a wall of text, and I haven’t really talked about what I intended to in the first place. So there will be two more posts!
I first heard about unity in… 2008, maybe 2009, back at the university. According to Wikipedia, it was […]

Character sprite sheet
So first blogpost on the new course and first on the blog as well! Better late than never I suppose.
So during the past two weeks sprint planning I took upon making a sprite sheet for our character for our game Magic Writer. By talking and brainstorming back and forth with my group members on how the character could look and move, I sat down and started to work on a sprite sheet. We had a few different ideas of how it […]

2D Game Project: Player Bullet Design
A few weeks ago we finally started to make an actual game. A 2D “space shooter”. The definition of space shooter is that the player Avatar has to be able to shoot and that gravity is not allowed. So no 2D platformer here.
From the available concepts to choose from my group, named Team 5, chose a game called “The Last Signal”. Compared to the other concept available this is a game that actually takes place in space! The player takes […]

Update #1 On Project Mole Munch
This is the first post of at least six that will be regarding the project I am working on for the Introduction to Game Development course. The assignment is to develop a 2D space shooter game from an existing concept document. As part of this assignment I’ll write about specific artifacts from the development. For easy readability I’ll describe them from three questions; what?, how? and why?
But first I’ll cover some of the basics of the concept document we chose, […]

Design for Magic Writer. Blog post 1, Every Pixel a Message
The First weeks of Scrum has passed. What have we accomplished? Hidden storytelling in design.
Not actual picture from the game. But it looks nice!
Design
The first weeks has passed and Magic Writer is coming along fine.
As the lead designer on the project my first main task is writing the design document, which turns out to be much more work than anticipated. But that part is coming along fine ever since we allocated time for me to do […]

User interface design! 2D Game Project
Hello! The following weeks I will be blogging about the current game project which is currently four weeks in. Updates will be happening weekly and will cover a subject or artifact for the game itself that I personally was largely responsible or involved with.
As I was appointed the role as Game Designer I took it upon myself to tackle the design document and of course, settle matters regarding the design decisions overall.
This week, I will cover the UI design decisions […]
