Browsing 'Graphics': Posts from Game Design and Graphics
Blog Post 5.
We received a lot of feedback after our play-test. Many liked our mechanics, how the bird enemy would fly in a wave formation and the basic controls of the player. They also enjoyed the graphics. One of the clear results from the play test was that the game was very short, and that the boss was very difficult when no instructions were given. Most of the critique of our game focused on the Aesthetics of the game, as in how […]

Lycanthrope: Post Mortem
Hello! My name is Mattias Borgqvist and I am currently working on a shoot ‘em up game based on the concept document “A game of beelonging” by group Ouroboros.
Here we are at the end of the course with our Shoot ‘em up game developed and finished. It has been a journey that I am glad that I could be a part of, before this project I could never in my life imagine that I would be able to do what […]

Hi Natali! Sorry for the late comment!
I played your game on the final playtesting, and I really enjoyed it. I agree that you really hit it out of the park with the artstyle! I really think it fits the theme of the game, and it sounds like that is in no small part thanks to the great system you had for working together. It seemed like, even though you didn’t work physically together, that you really had some good teamwork […]

Hello! Sorry for the late reply.
I enjoyed reading through your blog post, and I think you really bring up some good points. Especially the one about filtering out whichever comments you deem ”good” and whichever comments you think are ”bad”. Not all changes that are proposed to you would actually be beneficial to your game, in some cases it won’t work with the rest of the gameplay. It would have been interesting if you had added some data from the […]

Hello! (Sry for late feedback! I Could not find the URL to the third feedback I did and decided to do it all over again on your post.)
It was interesting and good for me to see how other people worked with the same systems as we did but with a little twist since we have different Project Managers.
You described in detail what you did and how you and your group worked with scrum. It was […]

Hi Sam!
First of all, I just need to say that it was very pleasant to read your post and it was very well structured and easy to comprehend, excellent job!
When I read your text, my own group comes to mind especially what you said in the challenges part about the general and definitive ideas. It is very easy to sit during a meeting and discuss ideas and come to great conclusion and some less great but then the week after […]

You explained in a good way what you had done working with the design of the mine for your game. I liked to see all the pictures and see and actual development of it. It was easy to follow because of the flow of the text and the pictures as i said made it even clearer. What you could think of for the future is to write it in a little more professional way since it’s […]

Comment on „Postmortem“, a blog entry published by Merve Metinkol
Hi Merve!
So sorry for the late comment, seems like my previous comment got kinda lost. Nonetheless, thank you very much for your unique insight and this well-rounded blog entry. You talk about your experience from the perspective from an artist, but also mention and elaborate about scrum, playtesting and issues that occurred by losing a team member. In that sense, it is a great summary of what has happened during […]

A nice brief description of the main character you made here in an easy to read and an understandable manner. The colors that you have picked for the splash art are really eye-catching and intriguing and maybe that was a big factor many groups chose to work on this concept, props on that.
Using polygamic shapes for both the character and the background in the last picture was brilliant. One thing that I always liked about polygamic art style […]

Hi Edin!
It’s nice to see that you’re bringing a lot from the project. I do agree that there is probably no way of perfecting game making. And even if there was, you will always be working with different people inhabiting different personalities leading to different dynamics – so it probably won’t be the same. I’m also glad to see that you’re expressing your dissatisfaction. I think a lot of the groups, myself included, wanted more than was ultimately produced. But […]

Hey Felix!
Overall I think that the post mortem report that you wrote clearly describes the struggles that many of us, game design students, can relate to. Firstly, having to go through the development process with having all the graphical responsibility on your shoulders, might prove quite the challenge, especially on your first video game project But nevertheless, you managed to pull through and do a really great job. I really enjoyed the animations that you created for Behemoth and […]

You are very optimistic about the project as a whole, what you have learnt, and what you have overcome. I think it is really good to have such attitude towards other things, but not writing a PM. I cannot see your actual thoughts in the PM. Everything is very general and cheerful, even when you mentioned that your one of the programmers were leaving. I do not want […]
