Big Game Project!

New Year, New Course, New Project
The last thing I posted on this blog was a project we made during our first year, in the program, which was way back in 2015. And now, almost two years later, I’m back at it again with the Big Game Project (BGP). During this course we have eight weeks to take a game all the way from idea to reality. The game will also have has the possibility to be featured on the Gotland […]

Wrapping Up Geneva Lost

This will be the last post related to our current project Geneva Lost. These last weeks have been busy and we’ve all learned one or two things about developing a game. The most important thing that I learned was the importance of planning and structure. Without it the amount of working hours each week got inconsistent. This caused a lot of our original plans to be cut out because lack of time. However there are a lot of positive things […]

Miscellanious Tasks

The artifacts of this week have been plenty, some small and some big. Today I’m going to explain my thoughts behind creating these as well as the licensing research I have done for copyrighted material. Among the things I’ve done this week are the following:

Redesigning the GUI and HUD
Finding music for the game

Redesigning the GUI
During the pre-beta playtest we got plenty of useful feedback and requests. One of the
things mentioned was that the use of photos in the
Old GUI
menu caused […]

Animation Methods Part 2

This is a continuation of last week’s post as well as last week’s task. But let’s do short recap of last week.
Last Week
Last week’s “puppet”
So last week I started on my crawler attack (swipe) animation for my game (why? Because an enemy should be able to attack, right?). What I made was a puppet to help me see what the finished animation would look like. I also wrote shortly about some different methods I like to use when animating. As […]

Animation Methods Part 1

Today I will briefly talk about an artifact I made this week as well as some basic animation techniques, as requested. So let’s get started, shall we?
Crawler Attack
Top down view
One of the artifacts I worked on this week was an attack animation for one of our enemies, the “Crawler”. When the Crawler is close enough to the player sprite it will perform a swiping attack, hurting the player for a fair amount of damage. And my task was to animate […]

A Simple Main Menu

As I have not put down a lot of work into artifacts this week I do not have much to show. Most of my focus went in to making a presentation for the alpha reveal. So I will try the best to explain what little I have done! So here we go.

Probably the most visited part of a game is the main menu. It’s also the first thing you’ll see when you start a game.  People […]

Getting Started

Routines
So I’m going to write a blog post every week from now, narrating my progress in my university program. I’ve never written a blog before, nor have I been able to follow a routine other than brushing my teeth every night and day. So this might prove to be a challenge for future me, though I am slightly excited about it.
The instructions given to us (within the program) was to write a blog post every thursday, containing atleast 400 words and […]
