Attracting people; A second try

I wasnt that pleased of the last result i had regarding the banner, so i dug around and got a second chance in creating a new one.
I consulted Nicodemus (A guest lecturer in the Game design program) about my banner and he gave me some good pointers. My previous banner lacked a good construction, the main focus in the picture fell on the middle part of the picture where the “&” sign was located. And applying the characters to the […]

Big Game Project (week4)

This week flew by way too fast and I haven’t got that much work done as I hoped, biggest reason for that is because I laid in bed the first two days and felt so bad I couldn’t do anything. But when I finally got up on my feet I found my way to the computer and continued where I left of.
I continued on the sketches I made last week and finished the front design of them, but when I’ve […]

Megabuilding Concept Art

Concept art for the key landmark of the paper city. It will be the highest building placed in the very center. This is only a concept sketch, though, and might look different later in the game. It mostly resembles the Chrysler Building in NYC, because I liked how the texture of the cardboard would show on the layers edges.

Silly Saucer Banner

Here is the banner for my groups newest project, Silly Saucer. Ludwig has done all the the objects in the picture and I’ve done the touch up with composition, font and effects. I made the beginner mistake to work in a much too low resolution – I misunderstood the directions and read “pixels” instead of “millimeters”. The last hour before turn in I had to redo most of the picture and some effects got lost in the process due to […]

Attracting people with banners!

Last week i had a task to draw a banner that would be placed  at our game station, my lack in experience regarding the use of colors (as i have only worked with white an black) made this task too difficult to do, that is why i didn’t post anything last week, it wasn’t nearly done.
I will try to show you how i made this one and all of this wouldn’t have been done if not for the help i […]

Big Game Project (week 3)

After all the placeholders were done we decided to change the perspective of our game because people thought the towers and enemies were quite unclear from a top-down perspective. Instead we decided to use an approximately 45 degree angle so everything would be more clear and the player can see more of the towers, characters and other objects in the game.
Since all our placeholders are done (even dough they are top-town) and we notice that our systems work were beginning […]

Big Game Project (week 1)

The Big Game Project has finally begun and things are going great so far. This week I’m not going to spoil too much about the game that we are creating but go more into detail what I’ve been working with.
This week I’ve been focusing on re-drawing the material placeholders that I drew last weekend. If I haven’t mentioned before, I use Photoshop and my Wacom Intuos 4S for most of my drawings, If I use other tools I’ll be mentioning […]

Level Design, Part 1

The first part on our level design course was to alone or in a group of two create a level in the Knytt engine, the purpose of the level was environmental storytelling and therefor no text or introduction was allowed more than the name of the game. I was working together with a programmer and together we came up with a good story (in our opinions). Here is a piece from my report describing some thought throw-out the proses and […]
