Life drawing – final assignments

Hello all! This summer has gone by so unbelievably fast, I get a bit stressed out when I think about it. But it’s definitely been fun!
Our final assignment in life drawing class was twofold; the first part was to make a sculpture, which we did in class with a model as a reference. The second part was to redraw a classical painting, but change it slightly.
Here’s my sculpture:

I’m actually quite pleased with how it turned out. […]

Life drawing

Hello gang!
This summer I’m attending the life drawing class here at campus Gotland. It’s been fun so far but a bit intense at times. I’ve been drawing people for a long time and I think I’m pretty decent at it, but practice is always good!
I found my old drawings from three years ago when I read the first 2D class and I’ve improved a lot more than I thought since then!
Here are some drawings from this summer:

Enterprise-D

This is a modular environment representing an engine room hallway of the Star Trek starship Enterprise-D. It was created in fall 2015 during a 3D environment course taken at Uppsala University for my bachelors degree.
The environment was constructed by modelling 16 parts in 3ds Max. The tileable PBR textures are created in Substance Painter 2. The objects in the scene have several LODs and the lightmaps are manually adjusted to increase the quality of shadows while keeping resolution low. The […]

Sci-Fi Crate

This is a sci-fi crate I made in spring 2017. It has 1 098 triangles and is modeled in 3ds Max and Zbrush. The PBR texture is created in Substance Painter 2.
I was inspired by a concept art piece made by Colin Geller, but I wanted it to have a more realistic appearance so this was the design I ended up with. I was curious to see how far I could push the use of normal maps to save […]

Summertime 3D-fun The conclusion

After laying around on ice for a long while after the modeling was wrapped up a number of months ago I finally got back to it and gave it some well-needed UV:s and textures! The normal map took a couple of rebakes but I found a compromise between either too hard edges or having gradients in my normal map that took care of some annoying artifacts (which probably could have been avoided by paying closer attention to topology and especially […]

Big Game Project: Post 6

This post will cover the work that was done the last two weeks of our project. Even though it will cover two weeks of work I get the feeling that it will be quite short since I don’t know what to say that has not already been said in my previous posts, but I’ll do my best.
Second to last week
Most of the time this week was spent in making the trailer for our game. What the designer wanted was a […]

Final year at GGC

Two updates in one week? I must be going crazy.
Anyway, as it is my last year here it is also time for my last GGC, at least as a student here. Perhaps I’ll come back sometime in the future! Besides my self help app, which still isn’t finished, I haven’t worked on any game this year, which means I won’t exhibit anything at the conference.
However, I decided to put my work up on the art wall for the first time! […]

Refracted Fate: Tools in Color

While I got everything into a confused mess as several windows closed or disappeared yesterday, I managed to find where you reset the hud in 3D Coat.
And as such, the tools are finished, in full color with metal and rubber materials.

I’ll update again tomorrow about some thoughts on the project as a whole and the day after with how it went during GGC.

Refracted Fate: Tools

As things are going on still, I am making further misc items for the game – this time it is tools, something a lot of places would have. While it would have taken less time if 3DS Max didn’t crash on me and erase my progress once.
The next step is UV mapping once I’ve confirmed the size of the tools.

Mostly detail work at this point.

Refracted Fate: More Textures

So last Friday I finished up making textures for my Misc items so far, and ran into difficulties with trying to add text to things such as the mug. I later decided against text for the sake of not recalling how I did that last time.

Sadly, I could not figure out how to make the glass mildly see-through in the engine. I will try to look into if it is possible in my free time.
