Level Design and wave patterns

Hello

So this week started with the playtest were we got some good feedback. We got a feeling on what´s good and what’s needs improvement. One of the points we got and agreed on was how the enemy waves spawned and the overall raise of difficulty in the game.  So this week I have tried to design good waves so the game have a good raise in tempo and difficulty.
The execution of this was easy since our programmer made it super […]

Animating using Anima2D in Unity.

Hello readers. I’m getting really bad with keeping promises from previous weeks. Last week I mentioned how to make a seemingless background, well that won’t happen this week! Instead… This post will be about how to add bones to 2D meshes and how the animation process is with the help of Anima2D(A Unity program found in the asset store).
As I just wrote, this week I have been rigging and animating our existing sprites to make them look more alive. I […]

Reacting to Feedback

A continuation on my previous blog post.
First of all, we had issues with Unity Collaboration once again (whoever saw my Alpha-presentation knows what I am on about, also mentioned in my blog earlier). The project updated poorly and caused the game to crash on one of the computers. Of course, this brought negative feedback that we later on filtered out.
To conquer this issue once and for all I decided that the weekend before any presentation showcasing the game our programmer […]

#4 Preparing for the end means preparing for a new beginning

Working within a project has a powerful effect on team members. As a project draws near you come closer and closer to the defining moment when it ends. It is both a cheerful experience if the project is brought to completion, but also a time of loss. In a project we build up an identity and a role. We create a structure and purpose that is tightly connected to what we do. It is our routine and objective. The more […]

Sounds, Week 4

So this week has been long, A long week means we have had a lot of things to do, which is good.
We started the week of by having a playtesting with the class again. This time it was really good compared to last time. We got a lot of good feedback and we had fixed a lot from the last time we got feedback. However we had not added sound!
What?
So this week my assignment, except from calling to meetings […]

Collecting feedback

Prior to each of our biggest milestones, the Alpha and the Beta, we have been hosting playtesting sessions. During these sessions, we as students have the opportunity to test our classmate’s games, and even more importantly, have them testing our games. This is a golden opportunity to gather feedback from our target audience, so that we can set the scope for the next milestone.
With both playtesting sessions being underway, I thought it would be a good idea to dedicate this […]

Blog 4 – Focus

This week I feel the week started early. The team grouped together on Sunday to get things ready for the Play-Testing. The meeting was going to be a collaboration day, where we would implement what we had done together. Unfortunately, some individuals felt that they would have time to finish what they were supposed to do before implementing it. This resulted in a waste of time, and some scolding followed.

My main focus of the week was getting the Beta Presentation […]

Week 6

Preparation for Beta Presentation
For this week’s blogpost I will talk about my preparations for the beta presentation that will be held next week on Monday. When my group and I decided on who would do the presentation for the alfa, I figured my team members would have more knowledge about details of the game, and therefore would be more competent than I in answering questions from our teacher following the presentation. We later noticed that most groups had chosen their […]

Sound Script

This week has sadly been a very slow week when it comes to the current game design work due to me catching a fever and needing to rest. As such I haven’t had the ability to do the work that I needed.
However I did manage to get a script working in the game that allows a sound effect for when you take damage.
When I started with this task I first tried at first to use the same method as last […]

Preparing for the Beta

Hello reader and welcome to my fourth blog post!
This week everything is about the beta. Since everything that you want in the game has to be in the game by monday, the programmers and artists are hard at work trying to get everything done for monday and I am trying my best to help them in any way I can, but since I cannot program or draw at all, my help in that sense is very limited. I myself am […]

BETA PRESENTATION PREPARATIONS

Dear Blog. This week has been more than just intense, the final week before the BETA deadline for our game development project. My group and I have constantly been working at our headquarters location to try to finish every aspect and feature of our game so far. I have myself been very busy with creating the BETA presentation that is coming up on march 6. Going back in time to my last presentation at the Alpha, I must say that […]

Management Things

Hello again! This week’s blog post will mostly focus on management stuff, which I guess will mostly be enjoyed by people that love organizing everything. Otherwise, it’s probably going to be boring. So, just to say something about the status of our game: at the moment, we’re focusing on implementing everything we have before Monday, which will be our second milestone: the Beta.
I think my group is doing a pretty good job at keeping track of everybody’s work and during the span […]
