Making progress

Had a really productive day as a group today, been working for nearly seven hours and all of the members have been pulling their weight to finish the project. Everything is written down, most of the art is done even the PowerPoint is done. It’s just a matter of filling it with content; which we got! Spent most of my afternoon writing a flow scheme over the player’s interactions with the game. And here it is: *Drum-roll*

Motivation – Why Game Design/Development?

For a long time I’ve always had a lot of ideas and scenarios popping in my head and constantly developing. All this time I’ve hoped to one day be able to put them on paper or/and screen. I’ve been writing and drawing every change I’ve got, but without enough motivation to continue and get better.I realise that there isn’t really anything special about this, a lot of people have ideas they want to put into practice. That is what made […]

2nd Person games

I’ve been thinking about how a 2nd instead of first or 3rd person game might look, feel and work.
It could potentially be a very fun puzzle plat former multi player game where you have to at all time watch you friend or at least give him hints through a chat when he could not see himself and thus making it a game where you have to relay on your friends ability to describe the environment and paths to take.

Board game progress report (Advanced Game Design) – 20131021

Today, we had a seminar this morning in Advanced Game Design. Marcus Ingvarsson, the teacher holding it, decided that each group talked to him in private where we demonstrated our game in it’s current state.
Since our group had a late time with him, we decided to do some more polish to our game before showing it to Marcus. Today we tested the wands in the game (previously called items). The purpose of our game is to find a talisman and […]

Project Grottan 2013-10-14

As said in the last post my group is working on a board game called Grottan. In this board game we decided to focus on exploration which meant that we had to make different tiles. The different tiles that were created were the Start tile, Exit tiles, Food tiles, Challenge tiles and the Path tiles. Each one of these fills its own purpose and are all essential for the core system of moving through the cave.
Start Tile

The start card […]

Doom’s Date, small update.

I just want remind people that Doom’s Date is on it’s way and we had a quite Important meeting on the programming side of it today. So now when everything starts to get planned hopefully the list of work will decrease at a faster rate and you will soon be able to enjoy Dr Doom’s company 😀

Serious board game the start!

So during the week my serious game group have been working on a concept document for serious board game. So far we are just on a concept level, but next week we will start to prototype it 🙂
The board game is supposed to enlighten the problem with Sweden’s long wait time at emergency rooms. At the moment we are planning a co-op game where the players get to play nurses at a hospitals emergency department. That is all I’m going […]

The first public testing

Last Thursday we had our first public play-test of our game. It went well, almost too well. We got our prototype to work at an acceptable level about one hour before the public testing started. we got some nice feedback from the testing and now we are going to develop it further. But what is the game my group works on? Well It’s a card game where the players have to bluff their way to victory. I don’t want to […]

Doom’s UpDate

Today we discussed how we wanted to structure our work. Me and my fellow programmer wrote down what we wanted to structure it with classes and stuff.
I know I said that we would do this in Unity but after some research and testing we decided that it was not the best platform for our game. SFML was our second choice and we will make it work the best we can 😀
Besides the programming I will focus on the dialogue tree […]

How I designed and implemented NPC behaviors and quests in two days

Two days left until the project deadline for Yomi’s Bubble Adventure, four character models are fully textured, animated and ready for implementation. One problem, the system doesn’t work.
In the following post I will explain how we worked with the external editor Artifex Terra 3D which is, except for the loader, closed source. In Artifex Terra you can create terrain, edit terrain and place objects. Artifex Terra 3D have the option to give object-specific properties for […]
