Board game analysis: KILL DOCTOR LUCKY™
Introduction
KILL DOCTOR LUCKY™ is a family board game for three to seven players. The goal is to murder a non-player character (NPC) by the name of Doctor Lucky. However you can only murder someone once so the player that gets to Doctor Lucky first is the winner. You cannot just walk up to the doctor and stab him though. There are severe restrictions in place that prevent you from even attempting a murder, and even then the other players have […]

Board Game Analysis 1

So, we picked Carcassonne with River expansion. It is a turn based strategy game for two to five players. The players take turn drawing tiles, placing them and followers in order to score as much points as possible by the games […]

Board Game Analysis – Game 1: Pandemic
Introduction
The first assignment in the course was to play three different board games and make an analysis of them. Get an understanding of their components, core systems, properties and player behaviours. The goal with the assignment was to get a basic idea of game analysis overall. But most importantly, to get an understanding of game systems in order to prevent us in the future from designing the same game systems multiple times by mistake.
Game Description
Pandemic takes place in a near […]

Drakborgen Legenden
Drakborgen Legenden
I and my group had to choose a board game that we had to play and then analyze. My group
chose Drakborgen Legenden. Drakborgen Legenden is sort of a remake of Drakborgen that is a Swedish board game in a fantasy environment that was published by Alga 1985. The Expansion Drakborgen II came 1987. The game is created by Dan Glimne and Jakob Bonds and was inspired by role playing games like Dungeons & Dragons.
Here is a short explanation […]

Board Game Analysis I – Small World
Small World is a board game where 2-5 players try to conquer and control as much territory of a map as they can, in order to gain the biggest amount of victory coins and win the game.
The Best and Worst Sides Of the Game
What is good with Small World is the randomized combinations of fantasy races and special powers. They make every time you play the game unique, and they also give variety to every turn played in the […]

Space Shooter idea #1
So some kind of generic Gradius 3 game/asteroid.
Except with the “unique” mechanics: “Thrust” – accelerate forward to mouse location. If enemy is hit during the way they gain the players momentum+x and bouncy around like you would play pool. If two enemies collide something will happen ofcourse.
Second mechanic: “Portal” creates a portal in a solid map object making it passable for the ship and other debris for a duration of time. can also be used to travel from the bottom […]

Master AI
Me and my group( Anders, Christian, David, Isak, Kim, Ludvig) has made a game based out of sissyfight. This was of course our assignment.
Firstly we added three mechanics. 1 which is that we should place all cards upside down, 2 is that we added a reveal card and 3 is that we should have a judge to calculate all damage.
Then the next day we got a memo to change our already changed version so that it would be educational. That […]

Board Game Analysis: Kill Dr. Lucky
Back again, after a minor hiatus! This time, an assignment was given to pick a board game, play it in a group, and analyze it, determining the core game system (including objects, properties, behaviours and relationships), the good and bad sides of the game, and the most interesting system.
The game we picked was Kill Doctor Lucky. It is a turn-based game for between 3 and 7 players ages 10 and above (according to the box), which works sort […]
