Mystery project is “Desert Raiders” – Game explained – Post #3

I have decided on a production name of my mystery project, it’s now called “Desert Raiders”.
The game is a competative multiplayer arena style game for 2-4 players. The goal of an arena match is to defeat all opponents and be the only player left standing. The core mechanics are simple, players place explosives in order to destroy destructible objects and damage other players.
Descructible objects can drop upgrades that improve players explosives during a match. Players can also have unique special abilities, such as “dash”, “remote explosive” or “teleport”. […]

Developement Diary; part 9

Today we are working on the project in general, what we get done. Focus on the concept document, pitch and one-pager.
I worked on target audiences today. I failed. I have a very hard time defining an audience for this game.

Developement Diary; scriptum post

October 28th
The pitch draft was presented and even though positive feedback was given, a lot of the information we had wasn’t even on the pitch and therefore it is a bit confusing as to what feedback is even valid at the moment.

Updates

So, we have now started our 5 weeks project where we are to build a functioning digital game, in theory. Our paper prototype was deemed good by our teacher, Marcus. He laughed quite a bit while playing it, and it felt like he thought the idea was good. We also managed to incorporate our keywords, Thurmaturgy and Summer well. Thurmaturgy as in our main character, our magician. Summer as in the design, taking place on a beach, with beach outfit. […]

Mystery project – Post #2

The project is coming along nicely and I’m ironing out how I will implement some features as I go along.
I have two major problem areas where I’m not sure how I should proceed.
The first one being character animations. This one I do have a plan for now after speaking and discussing my problem with a fellow student, Georgios Chatzoglakis.
To describe this first problem I will explain my inventory and equipment system briefly. A character in the game […]

Obstacles:

Obstacles:

Boulders: Reaching higher level, there will be boulders on the map. The player will not be able to dig through the boulder so they will need to go around.

Water filled tunnels: When an NPC fills up a tunnel with water the player will not be able to dig there. If they do, they will reach the water and drown. After a while the water will sink through the ground but the tunnel is filled with mud which slow the player […]

Developement Diary: Part 2 (officially part 7)

Today we have divided ourselves to get ahead of the project’s schedule. William and Erik are working on the pitch, Marcus and Alex are working on the concept document and Filip and I are working on the One-Page design, mostly him though since I’ll be finding a suitable rip-o-matic. I found one that fits our purposes, though there could be better ones out there.
