Browsing 'Game Design': Posts from either of the Game Design programs
No i’m not making a “hello world”-joke!
Alright.
After being distracted by the internet cutting out(repeatedly) yesterday i finally got around to make a blog post.
This blog will either follow me slowly learning to be responsible with my own time, or me complaining about my failure to do so. Only time will tell.
If i feel like it i might write about the video games i play on my spare but i’ll make sure to tag post properly to keep study posts from video game posts unless both a […]

Grey 2.0
Pardon my cursing but jesus fucking christ. I played the Battlefield 4 beta and damn the guys over at Dice must hate colors. I would love to give you some examples but for some reason it doesn’t let me screenshot. The frequent use of the same scale of grey in the game is outraging, I couldn’t tell if it was a lamppost on the road or just a piece of rubble. what happened to the bright colors of Mirrors Edge […]

Maya mirror tutorial
Today I started modeling a head for a character im making in Maya. I’m gonna use the character to train and learn bone rigging so I then can make it move. What I have found usefull before is using a mirror duplication so I only have to edit one side of the object and it will look the same on the other. To do this in maya was a little different.
How I did it in Maya.
Step 1: Go to front […]

Analysing Board Games During Nightmare Week.
So this week has been tough, mainly because of the three analyses of board games that was due for today in my Advanced Game Design class, but also because Serious Games, the other class I’m reading is unexpectedly ramping up with assignments.
On top of this I got to know earlier this week that Almedalsbiblioteket wanted to exhibit our game Alienation through an arcade machine they are putting up. The installation will be this Saturday, tomorrow at 18:00. This is great […]

Board Game Analysis
I recently finished a assignment in which we had to work in groups and play three different board games that we then had to analyse and write a report on. We were doing this to better understand how systems work as well as training how to better analyze board games.
I really liked this assignment. Not only because we got to play board games as well as a role playing game but that it gave me the opportunity to train on […]

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to my blog!
My name is Valdemar Ribbing. I am an 18 years old Swedish student currently studying Game Design and Graphics at Uppsala universitet – Campus Gotland. Spaaaaaaaaaaaaace (shooters)
Since our assignment Mayes gave us for this week was to play Space Shooters I decided to look up some retro shooters. I have been playing a whole bunch of games like Asteroids, Captain Skyhawk, Dragon Spirit and Captain Planet and the Planeteers. I must say that I really liked the 2.5D isometric graphic style of Captain Skyhawk. Captain Planet and the Planeteers had a nice mechanic which let you turn around and fly back a short distance for taking out enemies you have missed.
This have given […]

New game project
When they first announced that we would get our first real game project to work on I got pretty excited. What could the genre be? Yeah, none other than a wonderful shoot ‘em up! Boy did my ears get tickled! Before I applied for this education I felt that shoot ‘em ups and RPGs where my types of games to design. Even though shoot ‘em ups may be pretty easy to code and animate and this coming from a rookie […]
