3D I, Week 2

This week in 3D we discussed IPs and visual styles. During the workshop, we were instructed to create three models of crates, each with a different theme. The themes we had to choose from were sci-fi, urban contemporary, post-apocalyptic, medieval and cartoony.

Crate A: Cartoony
The theme I chose for my first crate was cartoony. Of the different themes we were assigned, it’s definitely the one I’m the most comfortable and familiar with.
I’d say simplification is the basic trait of cartoon […]

System analysis of Capitals

Introduction
Our group (3) played Capitals, a tabletop card game, where you race to build 8 (or 7) districts and have the highest score at the end. To achieve this, you get to choose among 9 different heroes (with a set of 2 different heroes ranged from 1 to 9), the lower the number, the earlier you get to play your hand.
When it is your turn to play (unless you’re assassinated), you get to choose an action, which is either draw […]

Board Game analysis: Drakborgen.

For the course Advanced Game Design we have been tasked with playing and analyzing the system of a board game of our choise. We did this in a group of 7 people and the game we chose was “Drakborgen”.
Core mechanics
The game is played with four people at the time where each player controls an adventurer exploring an abandoned castle and makes it out with as much treasure as possible. The player that manages to carry the most treasure out […]

Board Game Analysis: Battlestar Galactica

I am Back!
And the first thing we are going to do are some board and roleplay analyses. which we hope that you are going to enjoy and the first one to be analyzed is none other than Battlestar Galactica: the Board Game.
Bests of BSG

The one thing that really stands out in Battlestar Galactica as a best is the build-up, as the game progresses the board itself makes the players more desperate in their attempt at survival. As resources dwindle away […]

Analyzing Pandemic

Board Game Analysis
Introduction
So we are currently on a course named advanced game design and our current assignment is to analyze any board game. I guess this is to make sure we don’t repeat old mistakes by grinding core systems until we see patterns designers use.
Pandemic

So the first one we chose was Pandemic. Pandemic makes the players take a role in the institution of CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fighting different diseases all over the world while […]

MDA: Assignment Sissy Fight!

First let me explain the term ”MDA”

Mechanics: The particular components of the game, at the level of data representation and algorithms. So, mechanics are the rules and concepts that formally specify the game system.
Dynamics: The run-time behavior of the game-as-system. So, dynamics describes the run-time behavior of the mechanics acting on player inputs and each others’ outputs over time. The dynamics automatically change if the mechanics are changed.
Aesthetics: The desirable emotional responses evoked in the player, when she interacts with the game system. Aesthetics can easier be referred to as ”fun”. Sch, […]

3D and Screenshot Analysis

Right, so time to dust of the ol’ blog!
This term we are starting the courses 3D I and Advanced Game Design, so mostly posts will be related to those.
And as it happens this first post will be about the first week in 3D I.
The week started with a lecture, and subsequent workshop, in picture theory.
The lecture brought up much that was similar to what had already been mentioned in 2D-classes last year, however I do welcome repetition on the […]

3D Class – Week 1

This is my post about the screenshot analysis and the temp level that we did during the first week of 3D class. It’s a tiny bit more than 1000 words long (we were supposed to write 750-1000 words), but I just had too much to say…I hope it’s okay anyway!
PART I: Screenshot analysis
(The purple lines are directed at Batman and the cyan lines at the standing character.)
In this first image there’s a tilted perspective which makes the composition […]
