BGP Week 4 – Soar Currents

One of the main features of Clouds Below, is the ability to unfold your wings, and soar on the wind. Initially it was intended that this could be used anywhere, but due to its game breaking ability, allowing the player to go anywhere, we decided that it had to be restricted in some way. Since the vertical slice is a linear puzzle platforming experience, where we want the player to go to specific places, in a specific order, we decided […]

Late Post for week 5

Last week was the alpha week. The feedback we got, and the experience we saw the people playing our game had, made us realise that we had to rethink our level design. After the alpha we started a new level from scratch, focusing on learning the player how mechanics work. We did this by making sure we introduced new mechanics on their own, not combined with another mechanic. We brought some fellow students to try out our new level and […]

BGP – Scrap Pirates – Week 5

The Beta and Final deadlines are closing in, and we’re working on getting things done before this weeks’ playtesting session. I finished shading the run cycle, but due to lack of time we’ve decided in the group that we won’t be adding highlights to it. If we get the time before the end of the project, I’ll add the highlights, but should we not get the time, it’s quicker and easier to remove the highlights from the idle-pose and the […]

Week 5

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot to show for week fives late post. I spent the better half of the week at home after having been food poisoned.
I continued modelling some environment but instead of putting up a picture of that this week as well, I’m going to put up a screenshot of the work I did today (Monday).

This would  be the start of how the level is being built. The blue, yellow, green, red and teal lines that […]

Five Weeks Down

This week has gone by super fast and I am still feeling a bit stressed, I think that we will need to kick in an even higher gear next week.
I do have a lot of tasks that demand my attention but I will focus on what I have done for the main character this week. Firstly I needed to make even more changes to the braid after getting feedback from our teachers, which meant redoing the high-poly for it as […]

Big Game Project – Week 5 – Alpha

This Week we had the alpha testing for the project, we got some very useful feedback during the testing session. We have fallen a bit behind schedule and we didn’t have everything we wanted implemented to the alpha. As it looks now we might need to cut some parts out of the game and focus … Continue reading Big Game Project – Week 5 – Alpha

BGP (Scrap Pirates) – Week 5

It is the fifth week of the project, and it has been a week of feedback, reflection and discussion.
We have continued to scope down the game and discussed it in general this week, since we got a lot of good feedback from the open playtesting last week and the alpha testing that was this week. We are going to continue doing that at the beginning of the next week, and because we are changing the game a bit at the […]

BGP Art – Creating the Level

Last week was fairly uneventful since I spent most of the time just finishing up most of the assets without any problems or hiccups.
This week though was a lot more eventful since I started to “dress the set” or “pimp the level”! So I have been taking or white boxed level, designed by Adam Wrange and started to move away from prototype stage by placing our assets in the level, playing with the lighting and trying to create a […]

Week 4 and 5 project update.

Hello everyone! Last week I didn’t have the time or energy to write about what I did and how it went. That’s why this will be a double update of what I did last week and this week! Let’s start shall we?
Week 4
During week 4 I was working a lot with creating a logo, and most of the week was spent thinking about how to make it look good and still retain the feel of the game… Unfortunately, I didn’t […]

BGP Week 5: Alpha

One of the major events this week was the alpha testing session. This was probably one of the most important events that occurred during the last few weeks, since we received some really valuable feedback from two members of the industry.  We were told that the most interesting part of the game was the story, which does not come through in the demo we are making. They suggested that we should try to get at least a little bit of it […]

Tamarrion, post 5

This week I finished our boss’s lowpoly model, which will be the mesh actually visible in the game, and the group also spent some time in the motion capture studio on Wednesday to record movements for our characters.
As I showed in my previous post, I finished up the lowpoly for the boss’s body last week. This week I spent some time doing the same with the armor part of his model, and the final polycount for the […]

BGP#4 – A New Page

Greetings!
Title screens, some games do this very well, while other can make it an abomination to look at. This week I was tasked with the creation of a 3D model of a Book that will be used for our title screen. It will probably be worked on even more but for now it does what it was made to do.
Here is the Low Poly of the book

And here’s an extremely shitty GIF of the book animation, I do apologize. But […]
