Traveling
We recently got back from DreamHack Winter 2015 in Jönköping, it was the last time this season that we will be showing Tamarrion at show floors.
Our booth at DremHack Winter
It felt as if our booth was quite small and perhaps did not have the best placement, so there was not really that much traffic passing through. We did have some players that seemed to really enjoy playing Tamarrion in spite of that and we handed out […]

Nihteana
I have previously posted a sneak peek of the new boss that I have been working on, I have already written a long blog post about her on our devblog which can be seen here, but I thought I would just show some pictures of her character concept here as well.
The initial thought was that the first boss was supposed to be a lower ranked male […]

Motion Capture -Tamarrion
A few weeks ago we had a motion capture shoot, this was necessary as we are switching to PC controls and needed new animations for Tamarrion to fit the new movement system and to record animations for the new boss that I am working on.
We had some problems setting up and our first attempt failed as something went wrong with the files that did not know where to search for the markerset. For our second attempt we got some help […]

Changing Roles
Today was an exciting day for my fellow artist and I as we got invited to speak to the 2nd year art students as part of their 3D class. This is actually the first time that we have been on the “other side of the classroom” and actually speaking to others about what we do. Apart from presentations as part of our own courses which is far from the same.
We were asked to speak about what problems we have had […]

Hallway lightmaps & Medieval swordfighting
The past week I’ve been working on the hallway for my Georgian house. I’ve created lightmaps, which allows the lighting in a scene to be pre-calculated. This is a relatively ”cheap” way of lighting a scene, as it doesn’t require too much from the computer. I’ve also started making textures for everything. This is what the hallway is looking like now:
Dark and moody, just the way I wanted it to be! Pretty much all of the textures are still works in progress, […]

Concept Art – Week 5
So during these past weeks in the Concept Art course we’ve been talking about character design, shot design inbetween the basics of art like perspective and colour theory. The good thing about that is that even if you’ve heard it before, you can always find something new to take away.
This week it’s been rendering and while the final assignment is to create and render our own character designs for a given script (which is supposed to be our own take […]

3D class
Hello again!
Finally I thought I would get to that update about my 3D class. Like I may have told you before, we started with the design of an object from the museum. I chose a goblet that was not too hard for me to model. Naturally I got some help from the teacher.
As I were making progress I noticed that some of the building phase gave me troubles in the texturing phase. Depending on how its built the easier […]

Week 4, Hey… you got something on your face, let me clean it up!
So this week we had to clean up our old character from week 2, and draw clean line-art. We also had to make a turnaround of the same character. This time I was a bit slow though. And didn’t do my best work as I had to rush it in in time. I was really disappointed of myself and decided to re-clean both of them on my free time.
Here you can see the original assignments, and the re-cleaned ones.

MoCap shoot & Georgian house
I feel like I’m suddenly much worse at updating this blog. Let’s fix that!
In the past two weeks I have been working with MoCap and 3DII, which has been interesting.
In our MoCap class our assignment has been to shoot some takes involving a staff, and later to clean those takes. I did the shoot with two other guys, and I got to be the actor!
It was a lot of fun 🙂 I’ve never done any acting before, but I like to […]

Hey, look over there! Week 3, Perspective
This week my assignment were to draw an air plane and a car in a two-point perspective scene. For me, this was a really challenging assignment to draw. I did have some basic knowledge of perspective from when I was younger. But I’ve always been really bad at it. And it didn’t help either that I often remake things over and over again, because I feel its not good enough (can drag out the time). But when drawing this assignment, […]

Week 2, Constructing a character
This week I had to choose one thumbnail out of my twenty, that I made last week. I had to choose one, because our assignment this week was to construct a character out of it. This, for me was really hard. It took almost the whole week to settle on one idea. But I finally did it, and I think I’ve made a good choice.
I chose the androgynous Asian child. I did this because I felt it was the most […]
