Assignment 2 presentation and progress report

Here is the presentation and the progress report of assignment 2 all baked in to one. I chose to model a 12th century baptismal font. At least I thought it was a baptismal font during the entire process of making it, only to find out after some further research that it is in fact a “Piscina”! the Piscina is a drain used by the church to dispose of holy water and to wash the communion vessels, usually […]

Week 5

So here is my final result for assignment 1 complete with normal, diffuse color and specular maps. In these images the crate is only rendered in 3ds max locally. I have made a few minor changes from the crate I handed in since it was not approved as it was then. I have optimized the poly count further and I have also tweaked around with the diffuse color and specular maps, and I think it […]

Board game analysis; Small World Underworld

General
Small world underground is a strategy war game much like the previous game my group analyzed, called Dust. This game is however much less complex and more focused on straight forward conquering using the power of number of units combined with abilities. Small world underword is a game for 2-5 players where the game board’s size is adjustable to the number of players in the game.
There are 15 different races that are combined with 21 randomly attached ability cards, […]

Week 4 assignment

Why I made a new model
My previous models proved to be too diabolically constructed for them to be cleaned up and uv-mapped, so I decided to make a new sci-fi crate where the focus on detail was left to the texture itself. This way I can work more efficiently and hopefully recover the time that I lost during my sick leave. I also had to disregard UDK and use Unity as engine instead, because UDK kept crashing on me.
Motivations […]

Week 3 assignment

Why I’m a bit late
I have been sick now for a week and I am just now starting to pick up the alarming amount of work that builds up in just one week! The group that I was in was not complete, so it was only Simon Strandh and I, working on each other’s crates.

Before                                             […]

Sci-fi crate

When creating this crate I drew reference from the visual style of movies like Oblivion and the design of the cubes in the game, Portal. The references are mostly based on a general notion of these styles, I did not use any direct image reference.

The most important element in my view for this kind of sci-fi is clean and symmetrical shapes, which give a sterile impression. The atmosphere I am going for with that is that […]

Board game analysis; Dust

Introduction
For this assignment the class was divided into ten groups, each group had to select one board game each to play and later analyze. The number of my group is ten, and the game that we chose is called “Dust”.

Game system
Dust is a strategy based war game where two to six players battle against each other for world domination. Domination is reached by controlling the most capitals and power sources, as well as achieving goals such as controlling the most […]

Homework; Image analysis and 3Ds max assignment

Batman
Lines: There are several diagonal lines going through the image, and this creates the overall impression of movement and action.
Shapes: the shapes give off an impression of being man-made, in that they are mostly controlled and square. The shapes of batman are a mash of nature meets technology in boxy versus curved shapes.
Space: Batman is the positive space in the image, his silhouette makes out the foreground. The spaceship is the neutral ground. The flying bats help to indicate […]

Animation for the “Defenders”

These little babies are the final animations for the defender characters in the game! In all their shiny glory!

Animating a floating crystal is not exactly the hardest challenge animation wise, the hard part is to try and make it an interesting movement pattern! So I added the objects or shards that circle the body to give off more sense of motion and levitation.
the color on the body is slightly less saturated than the […]
