Unifying art assets and art direction.

Hello, it’s this time of the week again!
So last week we covered redesigning a fundamental flaw in the movement system, it is yet to be implemented but hopefully we will be able to tackle it soon. Great feedback was received from the comments as well and we will have to see how it will work out in the end… Hopefully, it will turn out great!
This week, I said I was going to be covering the subject of achieving a consistent […]

Feedback received! Redesigning the movement system. Week 5

Note: I forgot to mention last week what game concept I am working with and I deeply apologize for that! The game concept me and my team chose is The Last Signal. And without any further ado.
Welcome back for another week of game design with Morgan Nilsson!
Let’s jump straight into the action! This week we had a day dedicated to testing our games, and it was very fruitful. Tons of great feedback and ideas where brought up! Which is great […]

User interface design! 2D Game Project

Hello! The following weeks I will be blogging about the current game project which is currently four weeks in. Updates will be happening weekly and will cover a subject or artifact for the game itself that I personally was largely responsible or involved with.
As I was appointed the role as Game Designer I took it upon myself to tackle the design document and of course, settle matters regarding the design decisions overall.
This week, I will cover the UI design decisions […]

New subject and tons of stress!

Hello oh you, blog!
I am currently in my 4th week of my first 2D course.
So far so good, it has been both fun and incredibly hard! As someone who never sat down and really tried to learn how to draw this is so frustrating…Past attempts have been similar to: *Bing, I want to learn how to draw, lets draw!* Then I sit down, try to draw some extremely fancy awesome looking drawing and it ends up being nowhere near the amazing […]

Quick post before going forward.

The last few weeks have been extremely busy and it appears to stay that way for quite a while, blogging might continue to be inconsistent.
Below is a self analysis and conclusion of the 5-week project as a whole pulled from the project report that was written for the project. The chapters are missing, so it might be a bit jumpy.
From the start of the project the entire team felt that it all went smoothly and we felt confident that […]

Paper prototype feedback and more

So, in the last week we receieved feedback on our paper prototype.
Our prototype wasn’t really up to par, but it seemed that our general idea about the game came through regardless, we also received a lot of really good feedback on things that we could include or improve on the concept, which was great!
I am feeling we are on the right track so far, still, there is always room for improvement ofcourse, nothing will ever be perfect.
So, now… To our […]

GameJam!

We recently had our very first Game Jam session! It was a ton of fun and quite a learning experience.
We had to use Game Maker, so it was very simple sprite graphics and simple mechanics that had to be repeated throughout in order to make an exciting game. (Moving left and right, jumping etc).
Most teams were mixed with first, second and third year students. Obviously it was quite difficult for us first year students to make a worthwhile contribution, since most […]
