6th post – final game testing
Finally, the “shoot em up” game project has come to the end. It was long and hectic two and a half months of development. It was our first game project, and because of lack of experience we did not know how to get started. Everything was new and unknown to us. In this journey of game development, we have been through some difficulties and some good things. We have learnt a lot through this process, and we are quite satisfied […]

5th post – Playtesting
During the production of our “Shoot em up” game, we have had couple of playtests. For the first test, we made a survey with 4 questions. We had received 22 responses. As for the second playtest, we just asked the players what they did not like about the game and how to improve it. The purpose of playtesting was to get feedback on the game and maybe some advices on how to fix some problems.
During the Alpha playtest, we basically […]

4th post – pressure before the Beta presentation
Beta presentation is coming up next week. By then we have to be finished with core features, movement, attacks, UI, and challenges. It is a tough week and we have felt quite a lot of pressure recently. Things does not always go as we want them to go. The harsh winter weather caused problems, because many people got sick, and so did some members in our team. We had some delays and it seems that we are running out of […]

3rd post – Working with scrum
In this week’s blog, I am going to write about scrum. It is an agile framework which is used in project management. It encourages adaption, teamwork, self-organization and customer collaboration. Scrum has timebox, which is called sprint, and it can be from 1 to 4 weeks long. All team members can choose assets to work on and at the end of the sprint they have to deliver a feature. This was the first time for our team to work with […]

2nd post – Preparing for the Alpha presentation
This week our team will have the Alpha presentation, which is the major milestone in our “Shoot em up” project. During the presentation we will need to present a chosen concept and explain how we interpreted it. We will also have to present 3 things we are satisfied with the project, and 3 things that we had problems with.
While preparing for this presentation, it was easy to come up with problems we were facing when working with the Alpha features. […]

1st post – Managing and organising the product backlog
These past two weeks me and my team have been working on developing a “shoot em up” game. We chose the concept document “Umibozu” which has a mysterious feeling as aesthetics. This is our first time developing a video game and each member finally has a chance to show their skills, which might be quite challenging since we have two and a half months to finish the game. My job is mainly to manage the team and to plan and […]
