Comment made on Juste Eriksson’s blog post “The game, the good, the bad, the cool, the nice, the lessons learned, the post mortem”

Very good post. The quick description you give of the game is clear but not excessively detailed, it helps the reader picture what the game looks like without disrupting the flow of the text. You also manage to clearly describe what you’ve learned and the circumstances regarding why said thing stood out to you (Such as […]

Postmortem

After however many weeks it has been (I think 8) our game is finally finished, and the question I will now ask myself is: “What have we accomplished?” and “What have I learned?”
The answer to the first question is pretty simple. My team has managed to put together a short yet concise shootemup’ game. We did this based of a predesigned concept document which we selected, and we developed the game using the scrum framework. From the concept document we […]

A very nice and well-structured look into how your team uses the Scrum framework. I think you do a good job of explaining what Scrum is, and the following descriptions of your work process serves nicely as examples of how to apply the framework. However I would like to point out that there were a few instances in which I feel like the explanations can be misinterpreted. The description of […]

Comment on Mattias Ramkvist’s blog post: “Boss design”
https://rasagameengine.wordpress.com/2018/03/03/boss-design/comment-page-1/#comment-12
Your post highlights a very intriguing part of your game’s design. You do a good job of contextualizing as well as motivating why you’ve made this design decision, as well as what it actually is that you’re doing. If I had to pick out something which could have been done better then I do feel like there could perhaps have been some slight elaboration regarding why it is important for the […]

Comment on Niklas Ericsson’s blog post: “Sprint 7 – Playtesting”
https://niklasericssonblog.wordpress.com/2018/03/07/sprint-7-playtesting/comment-page-1/#comment-17
You’ve written a very extensive and detailed post while still keeping the reader interested. You make it very clear what state your game was in at every playtest, and what kind of feedback you were anticipating/looking for. You’ve also made it clear what kind of feedback it was you recieved and how it affected the development of your game. The many examples you describe (powerup, shield buttons, charging laser) […]

Comment on Michael Degirmen’s blog post: “When things don’t go according to plan”

Very interesting to read about other Project Managers’ problems and how they deal with them. Especially so in a case like this. While I have personally never had any real trouble with other team members not delivering on time, I have considered what I would do if such a situation would occur. What makes the perspectives of other Project Managers so interesting is the situation as […]

It is both reassuring and unnerving to see that other Project Managers are struggling with finding meaningful ways to contribute to their group. Your post is very clear about what you are working on, namely the alpha presentation, and I think you make a clear case for why you are working on it at this time. However, your work process is a bit difficult to decode. […]

Playtesting

Playtesting has for sure been one of the more interesting parts of the Game Design course. I mean the reason I would assume most people applied for this course is to obtain the skills necessary for a job in the video game industry, and while lectures and course literature is nice, I feel like the few opportunities we get to apply the skills we’ve learnt is when everything really sinks in. Playtesting is precisely one such opportunity and now that […]

Is it better to stay in the background at times?

As I was trying to come up with a topic for this weeks blog post I was thinking of situations in which the team would meet up to work. I try to make this a common practice within our team. For the most part I am always the one who schedules the work times and I also make sure that we have someplace to work, yet once we are there, I don’t really do anything special. We usually host the […]

Scrum Development

One of the less apparent requirements of our Project is the framework we work in, namely Scrum. Scrum is an Agile Project Framework that is prominently used within the video game industry. For me personally, Scrum has always been slightly mysterious. That may sound a bit strange to say when you consider the fact that I am studying Project Management, but there are some reasons for this. I just finished up a whole semester of studying traditional Project Management, in […]

Alpha Presentation

This week our Sprint Planning Meeting was hosted by our Second-Year Project Manager, our Scrum Master. The primary task this week was the Alpha Presentation, the Scrum Master delegated the task of writing and hosting this presentation to me, which we did not object to. I personally felt that it was fair to let me handle this task, since it can for the most part feel like Project Managers aren’t contributing enough with the general project.
I decided to host a […]

Organizing Stand-Up Meetings

I have chosen to write about what is most likely my most significant task, properly structuring and planning our meetings. While I am not entirely sure that I have managed to properly structure each meeting, the Sprint Planning ones in particular, I am very satisfied with how I have now scheduled the meetings.
To give some very clear, concise context: The group should have a stand-up meeting within the same timeslot every day of the sprint, face-to-face. This was some headache […]
