The last Fishburger
This is my 5th and final blog post for Selfish and we are pretty much done. Minor tweaks and fixes lies ahead as we have less than a week until our final deadline. Rather than talking about what exactly I’ve been doing this week I’m going to attempt to wrap up this project.
This is the first time I’ve created an actual game and this is the first time I’ve been working in scrum. These weeks have been incredibly educational […]

Our fish game is taking shape – aaaaaand some sound
If I can say it myself I’m really happy with the progress my team have made in this project. As we are now pretty much staring down at a finished product. With finished product I mean something functioning that we probably could ship in this state. HOWEVER, the saying goes: the devil is in the details.
I’ve been working in the same areas as last week, particle animations, sound and level design. Since I learnt about particle animations last week […]

Creating feedback through particle effects & sound
This week I have been play testing and editing variables, finding sounds and created particle effects. In my previous posts, I’ve been talking about my work in a very abstract way and therefore I find it fitting to talk about the concrete work I’ve been doing this week. The particle effects.
We received around 40 reviews during our pre-alpha presentation and it quickly became obvious to us that our game was lacking feedback. I figured I wanted to improve this mainly […]

Game design or Level design?
My main task this week has been to create levels/waves for our game Selfish. In larger companies this is specifically done by “level designers” and not the game designers. However, as we’re working in a smaller scale I decided that this task would fit me the best as I’m keeping the vision of the game and therefore I should be the one putting the Lego blocks together. I should however not be the one creating the actual Lego blocks.
There are […]

The Design Process of selfish
As a pure design student, my main tasks in this project are to: document design decisions, take a leading part in testing the game and communicate the design to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
My intended tasks have differed greatly from what I’ve actually done. I consider this both good and bad. By having me as the designer adapting to different situations we have managed to make great progress with our game. However, this comes with a cost […]
