Level narrative 02 – Entering a mysterious forest

Continuing our test level narrative the player character leaves her pleasant village and enters a beautiful forest that promises adventure and mystery. The undergrowth is think and rays of sunlight pierces the foliage, various animals frolic in the halls of nature.
The music is harmonious and soft, letting the player know that it is still safe to roam, but there is also some uncertainty in the lead Harp playing a hesitant yet ultimately hopeful melody. Halfway through the string section begins […]

Sounds of a pleasant village

Last week I produced a bunch of short tracks for a level design test me and Tasteful Games programmer Anton Classon did in Nifflas’ Knytt Stories Level Editor (downloadable, and recommended for some fun here: http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories ).
Our goal was to practice narratives through gameplay, a fun and engrossing exercise. I had fun knocking out some classic video game music to enforce that narrative.
Here in the first part, our hero begins her journey in her home village. The music is pleasant and […]

Goals for the rest of 2015

Hi again! This’ll be quite a small update.
I’ve been on a hiatus for all summer, but I’m back in the business now.  The goals for the rest of this semester is to create a Minimal Viable Product to release to a guaranteed target audience. This means that we’ll be working on Tamarrion (if you don’t know what that is, just scroll down! There’s plenty of content) continuously, and I’ll be working with design, marketing and PR.
The goal
Right, so my goal […]

Otto’s lines of dialouge

Now when we’re so close to the Final turn in of our game, we thought that we should make Otto talk. This feature is in the game just to tell the player of where Otto is. It is also in the game to make it more humorous. He will say stuff like “Get out of my house!”, “You should see my secret stash” and “Get your finger of my cane!”. These lines are all there to make Otto feel a […]

With a click of a button

When starting the game we want the players to be prepared. The players shouldn’t feel like they’re being thrown into the game without warning. In order to make the player prepared we had to make a menu from where the players can access the game. From the menu the players can start the game, check the high score, learn the controls, adjust the options and quit the game if they were to change their minds.
When making the menu we chose […]

Kicking off with Goals

Greetings!
Moving forward, work will continue on Tamarrion. And it will do so in conjunction with the course Game design in Practice.
In the spirit of this course and our continued work I have set some goals that I wish to reach, as a way to motivate me further and try to push myself.
1. The Aesthetic
After having worked on the GGC version of our game Tamarrion I saw many things that needed to be improved and that I wished to redo completely. […]

A trip to the museum & Knytt

This week we did something very exciting in our 3D class; we went to the museum! I love history and museums, so I had a great time. We got a guided tour around the place, which was cool.

Afterwards we got to walk around on our own and pick out an object that we wanted to model in 3D! This was a bit complicated, since it had to be something not too difficult but not too easy either. We also […]

Getting Back on Track

With most of our team gathered on the island again we have finally started up the production of Tamarrion again. Yesterday we spent the whole day working together, after a very long time. Until now we have only had shorter group meetings to discuss what direction to take the project, but yesterday we actually started doing some proper work and we are getting really excited! 🙂
