A Lively Death

We are now on the seventh week of our game project, which means we are making it closer to the end. Beta is due for Friday and our programmers are working day and night to have everything ready till then, unlike myself who have barley got anything to do this week. However, it is  quite a convenience since I am starting to feel ill and is in need of some rest.
Anyway, last week I finished what I believe might be […]

Project Haunted Light 14-03-13

R.I.P, dear tablet-pen. 24th Dec 2008 – 12th Mar 2014. I’m sad to see you go. You will be missed.
This past week I’ve been working on animating a short intro sequence to our game. We want to have this short intro so that the player doesn’t spawn in this unknown environment without any idea of what they’re doing there, but rather feel like he or she is waking up in an unknown place, and also to quickly introduce the games’ […]

Project “Haunted Light” 2014-03-06 Pick-axe hack animation

One more week has flown by so fast and it’s time for yet another blog post. For this week’s sprint I’ve been working on the hacking with a pick-axe animation for the player. We in group 5 decided early on to keep the digging mechanic that the original game concept of “Bloody Badgers” had. Although in “Bloody Badgers” digging was the core mechanic, we decided for it to not play that big of a role in our game. We really […]

Time to Polish!

Hello again! It’s time for another blog post!
We got done with all the art that was needed in the game last week so this week has been focused on polishing art that we already have, and add things that we put off because we were unsure if we would be able to make it due to the time we had on the project.
We wanted to fine tune our animations that we had, so I started with going through the melee […]

Being shot

This week I have, among many other things, worked on an animation of the main character being shot. It turned out to be a rather tricky thing, I tried to imagine how the body would react if being hit by a bullet and tried to sketch it really fast. I experimented with movement in her arms, making them go up in front of her body but it did not look good at all and I soon realized that I should […]

Project “Bloody Badgers” 2014-02-20 Running Animation

Time really does fly by. It’s Thursday once again, and Thursdays means new blog post. Since I’ve been having trouble with scheduling all my schoolwork this week there won’t be a whole lot of content for me to blog about. I did finish some, which I will talk about now, but sadly not as much as I had planned during this sprint. I will have to continue working with that during the rest of the week instead.
Amongst the things I had […]

Weekly Blog Post

For this week’s blog assignment I thought I would tell you about the idle animation I created.

We decided that we wanted to have an idle animation before the Alpha-presentation tomorrow as it would look better than having her moving all the time.  Before starting I thought it would probably be really easy compared to the animations I have previously created but I had a really hard time getting started. I found that it is easier to move arms and […]

The Wasp, the Warror, the Goon

The first Enemy you will face in our game, is the unit known only as ‘the Warrior’. He is your basic melee attacker, and will walk up to you and try to strike you down.
Since all our enemies are supposed to be bugs, we did not have too many different options to chose for the warrior role. In the end, it came down to either a moth, due to their habit of eating clothes, or a wasp, due to their […]

Tuesday Update

It has been a while since my last post now, much due to the workload of our current courses. As expected I did not finish the animations I had planned on completing last week. I did manage to finish the sneak animation although it is still colourless, an effect that was very much appreciated in the game. We had not originally planned on having her colours look different when sneaking but considering the strong visual feedback it provides we are […]

First Animation

I am not unfamiliar with animation, in fact, I studied animation in highschool. While it might not have been as in depth as I wished it would have been, it has still given me an advantage. Consequently, I was tasked with tackling the animation of our project.
What I consider the most important aspect to keep in mind when animating a character, is to make them look alive. This becomes quite the challange, considering the top-down perspective that we’re using. […]

Running

Last week, as I have mentioned earlier, I decided to take on creating two animations for our game, currently named Terminal. The main character is of course the most important part and therefore we want the animations for her done as soon as possible. Since I have already discussed the walkcycle I thought I would write something about the run-animation.I started by using some of the walkcycle frames as a reference for proportions, movement style and placement and redrew […]

Sneak

As usual this week has been very busy so far, and the worst is not yet over. Since we have a deadline Friday I decided to take on doing a sneak animations, two aiming animations and two shooting animations, I was hesitant as it is a lot of work to do in the little time we have, however it has to be done. It would have been hard work getting it done and as expected a lot of other things […]
