The Start of something new
Alright, so this is a new thing for me. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. My name is Fredrik Borgman, I am at the moment a 21-year-old art and game design student at Uppsala University – Campus Gotland. I’ve never really had a use for a second blog or site for contacting me, but I was advised to get one. Some people may have seen some of my stuff before as I am fairly active on deviantArt.com under the user […]

Summer Sketch Dump
This here is a select dump of what I’ve scribbled in two sketch books over a course of 12 weeks. I have so much more that I could upload but I see no reason to waste that much disk space on stuff I’m not really that fond of. In retrospect, there is a huge abundance of portraits which makes me feel like I’m unfairly portraying my own set of skills. Although for the last few weeks I’ve primarily focused on […]

Surf n’ Slaughter
Surf n’ Slaughter will take you on a amazing and adventurous experience as a surfer in Southern California. In this game you surf and fight deadly creatures of the sea by using your fists and by balancing on a surfing-board.
Surf n’ Slaughter is a fast paced, 2D-dimensional, action-game. In a first-person view, you will be using your own fists which is tracked by the Kinect camera to punch deadly creatures, by doing so you gain more points. To avoid people […]

Yeki Bod Yeki Nabod
In ancient Persia the beginning of a story always start with this following quote:
“There was one and there was no one”
There was one and there was no one, there was a man. As a gamer and a future game designer I will try and explain most of the challenges I’ve been given to solve in this blog and hopefully people will think this is fucking enough to fucking hire me =)
Cheers.

First day of School under Uppsala
Looked a bit like this.
To paraphrase our venerable Prof. Ernest Adams; welcome to Gotland, welcome to GAME and welcome home.

Houston; we have t-shirt 2
What exactly is game design? What do you teach in your programs? What is it that you do?
Questions we get more often than we want. And now we have an answer in physical form.
What is it that we do? We…
… build worlds
… tell stories
… engage audiences
… empower players
… provide escapism
… make dreams
These things and many many more, are all part of our programs and in the subject of Game Design.
Hope you like these. Add your […]

Equalising the Industry
In possibly the most important piece you’ll read on Gamasutra in 2013, the editorial staff of the Game Developer magazine shared their view of current trends and the future of the international games industry. They dedicate an entire page to “New Voices for Video Games”.
What they say carries such an overwhelming synchronicity with what we do that we’re simply going to let them speak for us. We’ve quoted the entire page here, adding links to the lectures […]
