Weekly Report 2013-12-09
To make a single image of a character in a certain pose and angle is one thing. To create the same character more than one time in a consistent manner is quite another. Even if you do not have to think about making him seem alive, every detail that is not made sure to fit with the other positions at the start come to haunt you later on. Much like the grid, Chinese Whispers tend to appear if you’re not […]

References are your friend
I remember a time when I was terrified of using references because it felt like “cheating” or “copying” to me. Then I had that course in life drawing/croquis which made me realize that using references is far more preferable than making things up in your head and pretending that you know what you’re doing when in reality you have no clue at all. Which fits me perfectly because I usually don’t know what I’m doing. This screenshot shows what my […]

Character Turnaround
This week we were told to make turnarounds of our characters from four different directions. The tough part in this assignment was trying to keep the proportions exactly the same on all the sides, but I think this experience will be useful for future work in 3D.

Charging! … Clear!
Wow! I’m really bad at updating this blog… Well, lets try reviving this lovely piece of ass with some freshly baked content.
The past month has been nothing but pen on paper. The 2D-Graphics course has been main focus and I have learned more this month than what I ever did in the aesthetic courses during elementary- and high school. And, boy, has it been fun. I love this course. Even though I want to put my focus on level design […]

Turn Around
Just for all to know: my computer and I are friends again!!!
This week assignment: Do a turnaround of your character!
Well, easy explained assignment, pretty hard to do. I did start with doing her facing the camera, so that she doesn’t lose her characteristic lines etc. I then drew lines vertical out from her to get all the directions at the same size. I did also drew her umbrella in to set its size as well.
It was a bit problematic to […]

TurnAround
Finishing off this weekend with a turn around.
I don’t know what the problem is right now, i have been trying to draw things but nothing turns out how i want it, the proportions are all messed up. I guess ill have to practice more, this drawing tablet doesn’t work for me, i got a tip from my teacher to put a paper on top of my tablet, it works better but its still not enough, i think ill just […]

Last weeks assignment
Last week we worked on building up our characters by taking one of our thumbnails, adjusting its pose and finally filling in details. The biggest problem I had with this assignment was making the head (both helmet and face) look right. After having made a number of versions of the helm I realized that the problem probably lay in the design of the helmet. Eventually I managed to create one that I was somewhat satisfied with. This week however while […]

Doom’s Date: Narrative
Hey! it’s been a while since I posted about personal projects but I am working on the narrative to the dating game. It is really hard to get the dialogue to match each other in a good way and to create all the choices that we want the player to have. After a lot of back and forward on which engine to use, we went from Unity to C++ with SFML and then Philip found a perfect match! http://www.renpy.org/ which is the […]

Character modelling and animation
After much struggling I’ve managed to create a character in 3DS Max and animate it in Motion builder. The process has been long and painful but fun at the same time. It was an excellent warm-up after last year’s course and I’m exited making a more advanced character and animate it together with two other class members. So far we have only completed the base mesh but my assignment until next week is to model the characters head properly and […]

Fantasy Roleplay Race Sheets
Over at http://d6dev.blogspot.se/ a friend of mine has been blogging his development of a roleplaying game and its setting since a few other friends and I bugged him to do so. And some time after he began doing that I wanted to take the task of illustrating all the races that his setting had. I felt it was going to be a good exercise in character construction and anatomy. But then I realized there were like twenty different races in […]
