Group work – update 2
Been working on the paper prototype with one of my group mates.
We seem to have gotten the core experience down on it. Now we need to test the prototype to make it stronger.
Hopefully we can do enough of that tomorrow and move on to finish up our pitch for a feedback meeting on Friday this week.

Group work – update
So I’ve not been updating this since I’ve been busy with various things and last week I was sick to boot. Seems like the game project isn’t going very well, I was supposed to get feedback for our prototype today but I was not given a finished prototype to bring to the meeting, instead I had to make one on my own over a few hours, that didn’t work.
Seems like the group dynamic is quite bad, we probably need to […]

Board Game Progress Report (Advanced Game Design) – 20131029
Today, we had our teacher for the course (Adam Mayes) play our game and give feedback on it in it’s current state.
Initially, he was skeptical to as of how the monster’s hidden movement was going to work in practice. However, after playing the game, he liked the game as it was. He got to play as the monster and the game was very tight overall to the very last. Although he thought that we could keep iterate on what we […]

Balancing Balancing and more Balancing.
Last day we had yet another balancing session, we were about half the group since the other half had other classes to attend. The goal of yesterdays sesion was to make the Wizard even stronger in the begining of the game and also try a new trap mechanic.
So inseed of doing an aditional 10+ saving throw for each trap and take two damage for each failed test, we tested and stuck with that you allways only take two damage no […]

Thursday QA
So the goal of this week was to balance the game as much as possible which i described in the previous post. This post will focus on the QA session we had this Thursday.
This thursday I pulled together the entire class and everyone tested at least one other game in the class. Since our game takes 45min – 1h 30min to play depending on the players experience only one group had time to test our game. It took the testers […]

Serious Game – Streets of Stockholm
So this week I’ve been working on two different games at the same time, one of them having a deadline tomorrow. This was the game project I’ve worked on in the course Serious Games.
It’s called Streets of Stockholm, and is mainly about informing and trying to raise sympathy for the homeless in Stockholm. Their situation and how you can help as a person is what we set out to focus on with the game.
We’re basically done with it now (otherwise […]

Board Game Progress Report (Serious Games) – 20131027
We are now nearing the end of the final assignment in the Serious Games course; on monday we are going to handle the game in as well as the rules and a individual report.
This week, our group sat down and polished the numbers that we had in our game, as the game’s mechanics were finished but the numbers for everything could use some polish. We also made it so that the player in the game can now discard two tool […]

Board Game Progress Report (Advanced Game Design) – 2013027
(I haven’t made a blog post about some of these things earlier because there has been things that has been coming in the way for me)
This week, the work has been more divided among the different members in the group. One person was looking into a new version of the board for our game, others were looking into wands (what we call items in the game that could be found by searching) and others looked into writing on the game […]

Exploration in Games
What does that even mean?
During the Design Club Meeting this week we discussed the subject of Exploration and what it means.
There were many ways to look at exploration in games, some thought that it was exploring the game world further and others thought it could be about finding that one strategy to beat the game. As in a tower defence game for example. In a tower defence game you can win by using all the tools available but what they […]

Doom’s Date Another Update
Yesterday, me and my fellow programmer spent the entire day working on the game. We made some progress but not as much as we wanted to. However, the hurdle that we overcame was a big one. Now we can print out dialogue with a typewriting effect 😀 It also proves that there is always good to have a brain but even better when there are two! Looking forward to our next session and I really have to get going on […]
