3D Computer Graphics: Blog Post Week 2

Theme one:
The theme sci-fi can easily be described as futuristic. When someone says sci-fi I immediately think of star wars. Shiny ships with ion engines and lots and lots of dashboards with blinking light.
Sci-fi basically points to the idea of science and inventions that have not yet been developed.
Image 1: Eve online.

I think this image represents the theme sci-fi pretty accurately. The image depicts a space ship mid-flight. The ship is very high tech and although we have somewhat […]

All the Crates!

Medieval
When it comes to the classic crate there is not much difference between the medial and contemporary shipping crate. The importance of distinction on the props in a game should never be understated, the barrels and containers from the Dwemer ruins of Vvardenfell in Morrowind is something I will never forget, the regular crates in the game though are just so regular. But the dwemer are not medieval, they are more advanced and therefore store things in steel kegs and […]

Sci-fi crate

When creating this crate I drew reference from the visual style of movies like Oblivion and the design of the cubes in the game, Portal. The references are mostly based on a general notion of these styles, I did not use any direct image reference.

The most important element in my view for this kind of sci-fi is clean and symmetrical shapes, which give a sterile impression. The atmosphere I am going for with that is that […]

Starting the blog

Hello world!
I am David Crosson. I’m a 22-year old freshman at Uppsala Univeristy, studying Game Design and Graphics. In this blog I will post mostly – perhaps even exclusively – about my time learning the fine arts of Game Design through the university.
Now do please stay tuned, as I will make my best effort to share my thoughts on the subject in a manner that does not bore you too much. I will try to post at least once a […]

The Lectures

So now I’m two weeks and two days into this course and I must say, it’s really hectic and a lot to process. These takes approximately 2-4 hours until the day’s done or we go through a another lecture (during thursdays and fridays). Most of these have group assignments where we students have the chance to get to know each other and learn to cooperate. And then there are the ones where we just sit on are arses and try […]

Summary of my first two weeks

Hereby I declare my blog started!
My first two weeks here at Gotland has been a lot of things. Stressful, interesting and confusing, but most of all fun. We went head first into the courses To communicate in speech and writing and Game analysis and game design – introduction.
Game analysis and game design – introduction
If I were to analyze a game two weeks ago I do not think a lot of good would come from it. “The graphics are nice, and uh, the story […]

Three themes, three crates (3d lesson 2)

Cartoon Chest
Cartoon styled games are usually directed to children and teenagers. The style usually has very simplified shapes and objects with happy colour schemes and often falls into the visual style Simplified Realistic and Stylized Abstract.  Objects in cartoony games are usually bigger than in real life and there is often a very prominent theme for what shapes and colours objects have.
Some games that I believe are typical cartoon games are Super Mario and the Crash Bandicoot series. They are […]

3D2 week two: crates

This week were supposed to create three crates with different themes. The themes we got to choose from were Sci-fi, Urban contemporary, Post-apocalyptic, Medieval and Cartoony.
I choose Medieval, Sci-fi and post-apocalyptic.

Theme A (Medieval)
When I look for references pictures for medieval I mostly look for religious pictures and objects. So for this assignment I mostly looked at Christian chests and other objects.
When looking at crates, trunks and boxes you will see alot of wood mixed with iron and other minerals. You […]
