3D retopo
So, last post for 3d1 and it is the one on facial scanning.
The first step on the journey to a true photorealistic self-insert in your game was to have tiny x makrs painted on your face with a ballpoint pen. The second step is to take a number of photos of the face from different angles and the X marks on the faces helped to clearly mark out points on your face that the software can later use as reference […]

3d 2d post
So, during the course we went through our grip on anatomy, traditional 2d drawing and the like. It went a bit so-so, I must say though that I was expecting it. I have not done too much 2d drawing and had not really been drawing in any real capacity until last year when we had our first 2d course.
To start the list off I will say that I generally draw too short legs, this happens quite a lot if I […]

3D1 Assignment 3 better late-est than never
The only thing that we had to go through talking about to any extent was the eyes. There were some discussion on whether the eyes should be modeled or just painted on the textures. In the end we decided to go with just painting them on rather than modeled. This was partly because it would be easier and partly because the character felt so 2d on in the concept art.
I tried to keep as close to the concept as possible.
The […]

Assignment 1 final
So I am as always late with this but I finally finished this one as well and in doing so is at least finished with the blog posts for assignment one, after assignment two no less.
So first we go through the different kind of maps used in most 3d games.
Firstly diffuse map.
I went through this quite well in the last post but anyway quick recap. Diffuse maps are the base of the texture the colors that it starts off with. […]

I decided to texture the medieval crate since I have seen a lot of wooden crates in medieval games but very few that I found memorable. Part of the form with the silhouette with the big planks on the top made it quite unique in my opinion, something people would remember if they see in a game.
As you can see it is mostly brown and wood colored, this is because I was going for a medieval crate and, well […]

Finishing up assignment 2 posts
Aha, we are finishing up the assignment 2 blog posts and we are doing it right now. So, we have basically all the posts I haven’t done in one.
I will begin by bringing up something that I forgot to put in last time.
Style. The artifact we created was to be made in one of three styles, like Skyrim (realistic usable) Asterix and Obelix (cartoony) or Uncharted (realistic but old, all ancient artifact-ish)
My first thoughts on the subject was that I […]
