Assignment 3: Model Optimisation

This turned out to be a very late update. This is the final version of the character based on the concept art and WIP.

Week 43: 3D Scanning and Photogrammetry

Another week, another tool introduced to us. Through the duration of this week we have been focused on the application of 3D scanning, specifically on a facial structure.

3D Scanning
Using 3D Coat, I was able to utilise a photo from 123D Catch and apply a mesh manually using said 3D reconstruction as reference. It is a fairly straight forward process. Using 123D Catch, you insert photos of whatever object you have chosen (a face in this case) in a way that […]

Week 42: 2D Overview and Reflection

This week has taken on a slower pace in comparison with the previous. While we have started working on the 3D modelling for our characters another focus has been to look back on our own work with drawings and painting through the year and reflect on it.

Early on in the 2D course I tried to absorb as much knowledge as I could on method and anatomy along with depth and perspective. It was a frustrating period to overcome, […]

Assignment 3 Update

This is the work I’ve done so far on the model along with the edge flow. Being identical to a human body I was largely able to use it as a means of reference. I had to take liberties with certain areas however, the limbs in particular, as this was a shape with completely exposed anatomy rather than with covering skin. The proportions are also considerably deformed, requiring a more loose approach when constructing it. The clarity of the WIP […]

Assignment 2 Update

An update on Assignment 2! It took a while finding textures that i found satisfactory (still not sure if they are), but at the current state it’s pretty close to how I imagined it to be. Simple in design, as it’s crafted by the common folk and not for some wealthy noble. With runes to signify a personal value to whoever made it.

The runes are Anglo-Saxon, engraved into the iron in a rough […]

Assignment 3: Part 1

This week I’ve been provided with the character concept for Assignment 3 from a client. Here’s the concept sheet.

The instructions I received involved a fairly detailed ghoul-like creature. A horrid construct created by dark forces to do their bidding. While terrifying, my client wanted another side of the character to be reflected as well. It would be as if this creature wasn’t completely mindless, but had in fact started to regain some semblance of thought and identity. It would […]
