3D Computer Graphics: First week.

The first week of the 3D course is finished, and we have been going through different elements of art and how they are used in 3D environments.
We also did an analysis on different screenshots from various games to find how they’ve used the elements of art: Lines, Shapes, Space, Values, Colors and Texture.

1: BATMAN

In this picture of Dc’s character Batman. We can see that it is meant to be very dramatic, having the camera look up towards Batman standing […]

Some quick drawing!

Suddenly felt like drawing something with a lightsaber in it! One could come in handy when pesky appear right?

Flashlight eye monsters! The worst kind.

Drawing again! About damn time!

It’s about damn time i drew something again. I’ve been either too busy or too sick to have the energy to sit down and do some drawing.

A bit depressing, but a fun thing to draw.

This time, I did not go for non-lineart drawing and instead went for a more cartoonish style. I’m not all to used to this kind of drawing, but I think it went pretty well nonetheless. Until next time!

Gunilla put on ice until further notice.

This week I have been continuing to work on our games boss, Gunilla. Last week I made rough animations of all her actions, attack, idle, elemental switch and death. During this week, I refined the line art of Gunilla and added colour and shadows. We decided to use the same colour  as the main characters mask for the bosses one, making them look similar. Making the shadows was difficult, since I’m not very familiar in making shadows in this style […]

The fearsome Gunilla!

Hello again! this week I have been working on our games final boss, Gunilla!
Everyone in my group have been discussing a lot about our last boss. What she should look like and how we want her to appear in game. Starting out, we wanted Gunilla to have every element in her appearance, having fire, water and wood all around her. Our lead programmer also came with the idea to have her looking a tree soaked in water that was burning. […]

Altars done!

Hello again! This week I’ve been working with the Altar and it took a lot longer than I thought. I had a early version of the altar ready that I was working with a bit last week, but it I later noticed this week that the whole perspective of the altar was wrong. This problem was not something that could be fixed with some tweaks, so I had to remake the whole thing.

The sketches I made of the altar.

I […]

Drawing time again!

Did some drawing practice and managed to draw some kind of magical knight in front of a cavern. I’m planning to fiddle around with the lighting some more but for now, it will do.

Finished the elemental points and started with new work!

This week I have finished the elemental icons for our game. Last time I posted, I had only finished the wood element icon and needed to remake the water and fire icons. The remake of the two went well, and i managed to get the same style of the leaf on the two of them. After I was done making the main icons, I also started remaking the small point icons, and ended up choosing the smaller icon setup seen […]

Working with the UI

Hello again, it’s time for another post about our 10 week project “Possession”!
This week I started on working with the User Interface. The UI is what the player can see on the screen, such as health bars and current power-ups. This artifact can be a little difficult to work with, since I have to discuss a lot about what looks good, and how we want the  UI to look in game. I started out drawing icons for the elements fire, […]

The steep learning curve of animation.

During the past three weeks of our ten week project, I took up the work to animate the main character of our game. I thought this would be good practice since I’ve been animating some before in Adobe flash, although nothing more complicated than stick figures. The previous experience in animating movement did help. But this time I needed not to animate a straw-thin character, I had to animate a body with some actual mass. I started off with animating the […]

24 hour gamejam!

At the end of Ryo Shimizu’s lecture, we got a suprise gamejam at our hands. Groups were quickly assembled and people started with their projects. I worked with Nicolina, Christoffer and Björn on a game called Bu-bu buta pirates! which was a sidesrolling shooter where you control a flying ship shooting down enemies.
It was a difficult task, since none of us really had any experience in programming. Even though it was hard,  Nico managed to handle the programming really nicely […]

Got some work done!

I was working on a sword for a while in 3DSMax that did no quite work out and because of that, I had to start over.
A few days have passed and I’ve actually managed to create a new sword from scratch and I’m quite happy with the result so far.
All that needs to be done now is to properly texture it. (I think)
