Game design in practise – MVP

So as I’ve told you I’m going to make this figurine table top board game called Worlds at War. This post is about what the product itself will include when shipped in minimum product development state, but also what I would like it to be, and what we plan for the future.

This is the minimum requirements to have a playable game that we must develop. We will reach further than this, but this is the absolute minimum state of Worlds […]

Dreamhackathon Weekend!

This weekend was quite hectic. I participated in a 24 hour game jam at Dreamhack Stockholm and had a blast! I met people from great companies and really interesting random developers. We did not win any prizes but i gained a lot of experience. The theme was “materials re imagined”. We ended up with a vs, side view, racing game.
You played as two very fat and bouncing chameleons competing against one another. The goal was to change between 3 materials, […]

This post is long overdue and should have been done several weeks ago, but what i’m gonna talk about is the coming projects that i will be working on.
First of me and the guys that have been working on Naar before summer will continue on the project to make a better demo version where we will implement the story into it to give you a taste of what is to come after when we make the whole game. Right now […]

Game Design In Practice

This term I’m doing a course in practical game design! for this course we are going to develop a game, or to be more correct in line with the teachings of the course, a product. This product is then for a passing grade supposed to be released to a guaranteed audience. During development the team needs to use their target audience feedback and needs in order to shape a product that fits their needs and market it according to that […]

Pumpkin Boy

Bet you thought I wouldn’t update this week?
I’ve just been a bit busy and haven’t had time until now!
In our 3D class we’ve continued working with our models and I have to say I’m a lot more pleased with mine now than I was a week ago. This is what it looks like now:

The dimensions are more accurate and there aren’t any topology errors. The final tris count is 2988, and the maximum that we had to work with […]

Tamarrion Logo

With the team continuing to work on Tamarrion and a website in the making, I decided to give the logotype a very quick touch-up. I am not sure if the difference is that obvious but I hope that it will make it more visible and eye-catching. In the future I think I will work on it even more, we have even discussed an animated background, but that will have to wait until I have just a little less on my […]

Level narrative 02 – Entering a mysterious forest

Continuing our test level narrative the player character leaves her pleasant village and enters a beautiful forest that promises adventure and mystery. The undergrowth is think and rays of sunlight pierces the foliage, various animals frolic in the halls of nature.
The music is harmonious and soft, letting the player know that it is still safe to roam, but there is also some uncertainty in the lead Harp playing a hesitant yet ultimately hopeful melody. Halfway through the string section begins […]

Sounds of a pleasant village

Last week I produced a bunch of short tracks for a level design test me and Tasteful Games programmer Anton Classon did in Nifflas’ Knytt Stories Level Editor (downloadable, and recommended for some fun here: http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories ).
Our goal was to practice narratives through gameplay, a fun and engrossing exercise. I had fun knocking out some classic video game music to enforce that narrative.
Here in the first part, our hero begins her journey in her home village. The music is pleasant and […]
