Week 3, E.R.A, Daniel Svensson
Week 3
This week has been an unrelenting wait for our internal Alpha to be completed. It is hard for us to continue in our design process before we have something playable and to that effect I have focused more on the production side this week except for one thing (see below).
During our pre-production I decided we would update our Agile working method by using two new tools, Trello and Microsoft project. These two tools in combination would handle the macro […]

Third week of Big Game project
This week has had its up and downs. Some days the work has been really slow and some the day has gone by in a blink of an eye.
My planning for this week was to create the Commander for the game. The scope of this project was to create a Commander with a resource system that can place new structures on the map. To get this to work I had to create some assets. I created a building that […]

Big Game Project Week 3
This week has been quite short for me as i was sick during the Tuesday which stopped me from working the whole day, the group also took the Friday off since many of us would be unable to do any work.
But this week i have worked on the levers that are going to be in the game, i managed to get most of the code done for them, i just need the graphics and the animations to finish it off. […]

Project Clint Weekly Roundup – April 12-17
This weeks round-up post comes a bit early because it’s Easter and all what that means.
Sitting with UnityWhile not complementing previous courses, I’ve sat more and trying to learn myself the Unity game engine. I’m starting to get a hang of how the engine and the scripting system and such is working, although this will probably be a constant process as the development goes along. I feel ready to start working for real next week.
Talking to teachersI’ve been talking to […]

Week 3 – UnityNetwork again
This week I made a revelation when it comes to network programming. Turns out it’s really really easy. Actually the revelation part happened on Saturday, so I had to set myself down and do some programming, so during the weekend I made a starting menu where we can select to start a server or connect as a client. As you can see in the screenshot below:
So the whole idea was that you have one dedicated server and then you […]

New game in development!
After recovering from the haze that was CoBots development, we’re back with a new game, Mechropolis! It’s a first person action puzzle game set in what’s the remnants of a lost civilization. The only remaining sign of life are small rusty robots going about their business, long after whoever built has gone.
You need to overcome challenges by throwing them (the robots, that is) together to create new ones that will help you traverse the environment and overcome challenges. I made […]

Unity Master Server – Big Game Project
Unfortunately, I’ve been ill this week and because of that, I haven’t been able to do as much work as I otherwise would have. But I tried doing as much as I could anyways so I wouldn’t get too far behind schedule. I have finally finished setting up a master server for the game so players can find available games to play without having to know the servers IP addresses. Players can now choose between creating a private a server where the […]

What is exploration in games?
Intro
What is exploration in games? What defines it and how can we as designers use it in video games? This was the question that 9 people tried to answer those questions one night, with discussions and bringing up examples in order to find out.
What defines exploring?
The discovery of the unknown. This phrase sums up what exploitation in games is. That includes everything from discovering how the controls works to exploring a unknown cave in Minecraft.
Now, if you follow that […]
