Sketch Dump 6

Working on ‘Volver and not sketching as much as I otherwise would have made me somewhat less interested in digital work once I was done with ‘Volver. So I have begun spending about one or three hours each day with my sketchbook again. Most of what I have in my sketchbooks are anatomy studies but most of them aren’t that interesting when compared to my main focus right now, which is stylization. I’m aiming to refine and adapt a style that […]

Environment shading – Day Two

I worked  another 5 hours on this today. It’s my first time so it takes quite a while to get it right. The biggest challenge was to figure out what should be darker or lighter than other objects in the vicinity. It’s not easy like “light or shade”, but different shaded parts can actually have the same value as lit up parts depending on how close they are in the picture. It’s complicated, but fun. Here’s a sample of what […]

Today, as well as yesterday, I have been at school working on one of the final assignments that are due next Friday. The one I am currently working on is taking a line drawing of an old, asian city and render it in grey scale. Things to consider are choosing where the light is to be coming from and what kind of lights I want to include. Since I did moonlight last time I thought I would try something different […]

Line Weight – How to do it and what diffrence it makes

As I was thinking through the constructive criticsism I got from my teacher on my clean line version of my character this morning, this video surprisingly poped up on my subscription feed on youtube. This was just the tutorial I needed since the cricicsism I got was that I hadn’t put any line weight in my drawing and that’s why it came out kind of flat. After watching this video I realized what a diffrence thick and thin lines do […]

Next Challenge: Lighting an Environment!

Christmas is over and feels already very distant due to the fast pace life’s back in. I have been working all day on how to render an environment. Between 10 am to 5 pm I practiced this on our assigned environment sketch. Then I have also been looking at a lot of art, interviews and tutorials with artists from modern Disney films among others.
I’ll post a sample of my environment to be able to track my progress, but this is […]

Lighting and value

The last week before christmas break we continued working on our characters, after some introduction to lighting and values we were tasked to render our line art in grey scale. Some useful things I learned this week was to start with a grey background instead of the standard white and to use reflective light to show shapes. Another thing that was brought up was to use a secondary light source to create volume, for this drawing I considered what it […]

Animering

Arbetsdag 091353

Colour Workshop with Silvy Strand

Today we had a guest lecturer in the 2D-course, freelance illustrator Silvy Strand. She started with a lecture on what it is like to work as a freelancer and gave some good tips on what you need to think of when starting a buisiness. Then she demonstrated two approaches to colouring a drawing and let us have a go at it. One of the techniques was one that I am more familiar with, blocking in the colours and then add […]

Coloring Of Line Art

Today in class we had a guest lecturer on the subject of coloring Line Art. Sadly, I found that my cleanup was not good enough (detailed enough) to make any kind of interesting coloring. There for I downloaded a picture from google and did that instead.

Sketches & Art: Shaman WIP

More painting ^^
this time I’ve been working with pretty much everything. gonna add a lot of pictures here to depict my workflow
First I made dynamic lines, to catch the movement of the character (My head got all scribbled over and erased during a later stage so it looks really weird.

Then I started constructing it, What i did was i first fleshed out the body, made the torso and the hip section and combining them. After that I […]
