Project Terminal – Run Animation Remake
It’s beta week! I’ve started to accept how ridiculously fast the weeks are going by and have just started to go with it.
This monday we had our second playtest and I got to see my guards running in game for the first time. A few people commented on the animation feeling a bit off. I quote “when he’s running downward, it looks like he’s swimming on the floor.” They didn’t have to tell me because I saw the problem clearly […]

Project Terminal – Menu Buttons!
Is this week seven? I feel like as it might as well be week four. Time goes so fast! But yes, we have almost spent two months on this project and what was mere ideas is now starting to become reality. It’s quite amazing to see.
Now when the game itself has got some flesh on it’s bones it’s time to pay some attention on all the other aspects around a game, like the game menu. One might think that it’s […]

Project Terminal – Developing a Style
Good evening! We’re on week six now and the project is going well. I spend most of my time making the different animations for our guard. Though this week I’ve mostly been revamping the already existing animations due to our change in style. So this week I’ll rather write about our process in developing a distinct style for our game.
The primary critique that we received from our playtest had to do with the style of our game. We got several […]

Color and Lighting
So we went through lots of tutorials today about the way light works and different terms and phenomenons when it comes to lighting. Also, we quickly went through some camera effects which we can try to replicate in our artwork. I didn’t write everything down, but I took some notes. I’ll share them in this post in hope that it will be of help for somebody. Mind you, these are my quick, unedited notes.

Linear Color and Speedpaintings
We played around a little with different blending options on our brushes in Photoshop today. After that, we sat and did 4 speedpaintings on environments. 15 minutes each. My brain is all tired and gooey from all the concentration.

Project Terminal – The Guard Walking Animation
We are in on week five meaning we are now halfway through this project. In five more weeks, we will all be showing off our finished games. I can’t believe it!
This week I’ll be showcasing the guards walking animation that I’ve been working on. It’s been a long term piece of work of mine that is basically my first real effort on animation, if we disregard the stick figure’s I’ve animated in panic on different workshops and game jams. Before […]

Project Terminal – The Fatigue Meter
Last week I took on the responsibility of creating the HUD for the game. In this post I will showcase the fatigue meter and explain how I’ve been thinking when designing it.
Our character will be able to sprint when moving through the game world. While sprinting a fatigue meter will gradually be filling up. When it is filled you will start breathing heavily which makes you more likely to alert the guards in the near vicinity of you.
For starters, I […]

Sunday Sketch
I practiced drawing men today. I didn’t time myself but I think it took about 1 hour. Horizontal flipping to find mistakes is a Godsend! I want to continue on this sketch later.

“Terminal” Production Start
We had our first real Sprint Plan meeting this Monday and putting everything down in a document made things feel a lot clearer. Now I know what I should do this week. I’ve made a GUI sample and will continue adding to it by creating icons. I have never made anything like a GUI before so I thought it’d be a bit of a challenge to get into the right mindset, but with the help and feedback from my group […]

Ballerina
30 minute spitpaint I did yesterday of a ballerina. I wanted to paint the dark side of the ballet world. I loved painting this and might put more time on it sometime.
Productive Saturday
Today I redid a lot of things on the character drawing that we were assigned to make into a solid piece. Watching tutorials during meals sure has paid off. I’ve used several different techniques to improve my character. For example, I tried flipping my drawing horizontally to spot weaknesses in construction. It helped me a great deal! I have also watched a tutorial on how fabric tends to wrinkle. My attempt is surely far from perfect, but it’s my first […]
